Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Likewise if someone claimed Krishnamurti or a used car salesman or a parrot taught dharma, I think those claims could likewise not withstand scrutiny for very long. Problem is that somebody here is saying that the Dharma, being a compounded phenomenon, has no stable meaning and thus anything can be...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

For example, Greg, who believes the Dharma is some timeless principle, like Plato's forms. Take it up with the Buddha: An ancient path rediscovered "It is just as if a man, traveling along a wilderness track, were to see an ancient path, an ancient road, traveled by people of former times. He would...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

It never states in any sūtra or tantra for that matter, that the Dharma, the teaching of the Buddha, is permanent. Maitreyanatha in fact states just the opposite of your opinion. I already answered to Maitreyanatha's opinion. Confusing dharmatā, etc., with the Dharma is confusing something uncondit...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

You have certainly offered nothing as an objective standard for how to know what to accept and what to reject. I don't think you are up to the challenge either. Karma Dorje said it already and so did I: If it conforms to the Four Dharma Seals then it is Dharma. So then you accept Advaita Vedanta as...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

We've just covered this. The Dharma is impermanent, and subject to decay and destruction. It is seems funny to call something subject to decay and destruction "ultimate truth." No it is not. The conceptualised notion of Dharma is impermanent and subject to decay. If the Dharma was subject to change...

There is no ultimate truth, ultimately. But go ahead and try to find it. Be my guest.
The Dharma is the ultimate truth. That is why we take Refuge in it.

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

It is pretty simple -- there isn't the slightest bit of empirical evidence that from Mahāyāna onward any of these texts, sūtra and tantras, long oral lineage or short treasure lineage, were indeed spoken by the Buddha and so on. Based upon this, I really think the standard of accepting and rejectin...

Re: Question about removing christian/etc. baptism

Btw guys, is not the name "baptism" my business on this, but the bound made to this deva... Even the presumption that the religion in question is connected to some sort of deva is lending a bit too much credibility in their direction, in my opinion. I was baptized as a child and attended Sunday sch...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

If Magnus is correct, then it seems to me that many of us (most of us?) in the Nyingma sub must have samaya with the same teachers as the Aro folk. That is not insignificant. Indeed. And it also seems to feed into the post in the link I shared. It seems to verify that they actually belong to a line...

No. But the only reason I brought up these two statements anyway, is to highlight your hypocrisy. I'm done with this thread. Well, glad you are satisfied. Now go do something more useful with your time than engaging in wild goose chases over true vs. false treasures. It seems not... https://dharmaw...

Re: Dharma kitty

We have an orange cat (female, stray) that adopted us recently. She is the unfriendliest cat I have ever seen. She only lets you feed her, if you try and stroke her she sticks the nails in straight away.

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Oh, so now LOTR is a terton? I thought this was just a pure vision. Who validated this terma? Hypocrisy, not inconsistency. The point, Greg, is that you demand proof of validation for Aro ter, but not for your own teacher's termas. That seems contradictory to me. I still find the idea of Kalima as ...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Who, for example, recognised ChNN and his pure visions/terma? He was recognized by his uncle, first, then later by the 16th Karmapa. But in terms of his terma, as far as I know it hasn't been validated but some terma validating authority. But I know some Tibetan Lamas who are very enthusiastic abou...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

I think many are surprised to see Malcolm take position #2 given the strong views he has espoused elsewhere as to the invalidity of certain practices, not least in one long discussion he had with you on this topic. Maybe you can see an error of reasoning in his argument here; I can’t. You mean like...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

The better question is whether or not a particular Dharma group is helpful or harmful. I do not disagree, but that would be a different discussion altogether, wouldn't it? And to do this it would be a good idea to lay down some standards and stick to them. In the original thread this one was split ...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

This is all really heart warming, but it really is completely irrelevant. The discussion is not whether Aro gTer is dangerous or not, the discussion is not whether there are genuinely nice people in Aro gTer, the discussion is not about whether all groups with a guru are cults or not, the discussion...
