Re: Disagreeing with Guru

Yes. :) I think the other apect I was thinking of was the inner Guruyoga: Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche (Tsultrim Gyamtso Rinpoche) from the Guruyoga Practice Guide: 'When we rest in the state of visualising the Guru’s appearance inseparable from one’s own mind, we realise the meaning that this state, fre...

I've forgotten where I read it but doesn't the process then lead to treating all Gurus as one, and untimately a Guruyoga without a specific human form in mind?
In the Kagyu Ngondro you visualise the guru in the form of Vajradhara.

Re: Boers bent on relocating to Russia

What you fail to understand is that migrants/refugees are forced into segregation. They come into a society where they are immediately distrusted and not accepted. They are viewed with suspicion and disdain for no reason other than the fact that they are different. They are seen as threat rather tha...

Re: Boers bent on relocating to Russia

What I did try to show was that some people have legitimate reasons for feeling disgruntled with a migrant/refugee intake, which does not equate to being racist . What you consider legitimate, I consider completely illegitimate and totally racist. Sickeningly so. Since when was jealousy a legitimat...

A daily torma? Or the 8 offerings? Wouldn't that literally be part of a sadhana/practice? Or is this an entirely different practice as well?
You should refrain from asking people for details of their practices. ;)

WEll, Dan, I hear you, but I don't think other people are getting your point.
I get it, I just don't agree with it. People don't become racists purely out of reaction, some people love to hate, regardless of what you say to them. Karma, yah know?

Re: Disagreeing with Guru

I never stated such a thing. The traditional recommendation is to observe a guru for 12 years before taking empowerments. 12 years. Thank you. I was not sure if I remembered correctly Once one has taken empowerment, that person is one’s guru whether one has studied then for 12 years or one day. I h...

Re: Disagreeing with Guru

Dang. Do you just decide which sadhana to do for the day or do you just choose one and stick to it forever? It is not a matter of choice, as such. I asked for a particular practice and the teacher said: "If I give you this practice you will have to do it daily forever. Are you up to it?" And I stup...

Re: Disagreeing with Guru

I was responding to your assertion that you do not have a guru. Would it be more suitable for me to assert that I do not feel like I have a guru? Or maybe to assert that for me merely satisfying some spiritual bureaucratic conditions is not enough to make me feel like a teacher is my guru? Would th...

Re: Disagreeing with Guru

Why not all? At some point Beru Khyentse came to Greece and gave us 5 days worth of empowerments from the Chikse Kundrul. Twenty-six empowerments to be exact. You think it is possible to keep samaya for twenty-six empowerments? He said it himself: Chose one practice that resonates with you and do i...

So a person who can pronounce the mantra according to Sanskrit deliberately teaches how to mispronounce it because it seems to be OK. That seems like a pointless exercise.

Re: Disagreeing with Guru

Thus means you think you have no samaya. But if you have samaya, you have a guru since former is dependent on the latter. I have samaya, definitely, that is (one reason) why I continue to do some of the practices that were given to me. Having said that (as I said in another thread): Practicing guru...

Re: Disagreeing with Guru

Would you please share more on 'refuge lama', what that really means? The energetic connections? And how to shut them down? I find I'm in the same place, where the refuge Lama is going in a direction I cannot go and I don't know how to leave in a dharmic way. And how to shut down links that are har...

Re: "You need to know Tibetan to achieve enlightenment in this life"

IMO, forget all this intellectualization, all this discursive thought, all these nam-tok . You're talking as if there is a self-existing objective reality with real true and false, real right and wrong, real past, present, and future, real here and there, real us and them. Just do the practice the ...

Re: "You need to know Tibetan to achieve enlightenment in this life"

What to make of this? It needs to be seen in the context of the relationship between an individual teacher and his student. He may have given a very different answer to another student. In which case it means nothing for anybody except the person it was said to. So what is it's relevance to this di...

Re: "You need to know Tibetan to achieve enlightenment in this life"

I certainly don't feel like I do, but are we not in better starting positions than Mila was? I think that Milarepa had a greater sense of desperation and urgency than we do, since he committed serious crimes in his current life, so the fact that he would have to do something or else face the conseq...
