Re: I've been so wrong/pure lands

I think you'll find he said the complete opposite: That a Buddha never has, or has had afflictions. Umm no, read the thread again. Sorry, you are quite right, I only skimmed the thread to deal with a report. But if a Buddha has defilements then they are just another worldly ignorant being. In which...

Re: I've been so wrong/pure lands

You think a Buddha has afflictions? Because, according to what Mark wrote there, the Buddha is afflicted, just like you and I. But more to the point, he is wrapped up in a Buddhist dogma so he never talks too people, only at them. I think you'll find he said the complete opposite: That a Buddha nev...

Re: Confusion

I am going to have to shut down this metadiscussion.

Like I said in the locked thread: Tenma has plenty of information and advice to mull over, digest and apply, if that is her intention.

Re: Right Wing and Left Wing Totalitairianism and Fascism

Frankly, no Capitalist country has ever come close to the bloodshed inflicted on the world by Communists and Fascists, not in your wildest dreams. I seem to remember a capitalist country dropping a couple of nuclear bombs, engaging in a war on the Korean peninsula and Vietnam, backing Muslim fundam...

I don't think winning the lottery is karmic.
Explain
I mean the number drawn is not a result of karma.

There are no predestined lottery winners.
The fact that you associate karma vipaka with predestination betrays the fact that you really need to study what karma is/means in Buddhism.

Re: I've been so wrong/pure lands

Urns Let's set the record straight then. The Buddha has eradicated all afflictions, it is axiomatic. Only those whose understanding of the Dharma is completely perverse deny this. That's why you hate the Lotus Sutra and its votaries...Because they overturn everything you believe and were taught for...

Gambling is a mugs game and the lottery is designed so that the only winners ultimately are the lottery agencies.

Re: winning the lottery...???

The positive merit that you cash in in order to win can be best utilised elsewhere and for more noble purposes. If you are not "in it" then you are not going to "win it" and fritter away your merit in temporary worldly gains. And this excuse "think of how many people I can help if I win", pretty cra...

Re: Santa La Muerte

Thank you to everybody for trying to answer to Tenma's queries. When answering to issues (and people) like Tenma's one always has to be cautious about what sort of language they use. Talking to a suicidal person about weapons or defining a confused person's spiritual meandering as witchcraft can cau...

Re: Right Wing and Left Wing Totalitairianism and Fascism

Greg, I agree with all this. It does not change the fact (from my perspective of course that most people in my own country I have seen calling themselves "Antifa" here are not willing to put themselves between anything, but are often into making performative public statements -very- thinly disguise...

Austerity is the path to bankruptcy. Kirt Austerity measures are touted as a means to pay off debt, but really they are just a justification to implement monetarist neo-liberal policies (to destroy universal education and medical care, lower wages, reduce pensions, etc...) Austerity measures are a ...

Re: Right Wing and Left Wing Totalitairianism and Fascism

What being an Antifa, even a puerile poser, essentially entails is putting an obstacle between Fascists and their intended victims. I applaud those you use their white privilege against those trying to impose theirs on the (largely) defenceless. What people fail to understand is that for every blown...

Re: winning the lottery...???

The best way to make money is to give money (especially to worthy objects). Take the money you waste on the lottery, give it to somebody that needs it and win a positive rebirth (or even enlightenment). This might be a bit off-topic but then again, it might not be worth having its own thread. I met...

Re: DJKR, Sogyal Rinpoche, and Dharma in the West...

That not exactly true. Dharma works great for some individuals but not as a collective. Dharma works perfectly at all levels, isms do not. Just go spend sometime at any Dharma centre or monastery to see all the five poisons in full swing. Last time I looked Buddhists were also ruled by their ignora...

Re: Right Wing and Left Wing Totalitairianism and Fascism

While I share people's distaste for fascists, in the interest of intellectual honesty, I have to say there is no moral equivalence between minority lefties trying to stymie the tide of fascism as in Italy and Germany in early 20th Century and antifa beating small bunches of misfits and disgruntled ...
