Re: Charnel grounds

Doesn’t their practice somehow is a bit similar with Tibetan yogis? ( eg. everything is inherently pure, natural state - no fear or disgust ) ... I sometimes wonder if they can be liberated like this? I think at least some of them might have attained some realization akin to that of an accomplished...

Re: Teaching gift

I recently finished a weekend course with a traveling Geshe . The retreat attended on the basis of registration , including a fee (that I assume helped cover venue hire, lunch etc.) . At the end of the course everyone lined up with Khaita and gifts to present . Now being somewhat new to the formal ...

At any rate, for people who do it, it's another method for purification and merit creation.
I am sure it is. I am also sure I will put out a bucket just to be on the safe side.

Re: Jayarava's New Thesis on Heart Sutra: Sanskrit Version Deliberate Forgery by Tang Chinese

But you're deciding the water is pure before you drink it. There are all sorts of weird ideas going around about what constitutes "pure". Take Jayarava's idea that the Heart Sutra is "impure" because of it's source. One time I was out in the countryside with my (city slicker) girlfriend and she was...

Re: Rishi Stars?

It's not clear what you are referring to. The practice of the rishi stars is a form of upaya. The Dhammapada quote is a teaching that one needs to not neglect even slight meritorious practice as one accumulates merit slowly over time (and this fact is a major reason for Tibetan Buddhist methods sin...

Re: Jayarava's New Thesis on Heart Sutra: Sanskrit Version Deliberate Forgery by Tang Chinese

I would have thought my point was blindingly obvious. When drinking water one considers the source. If the water is pure, I don't really care what the source is. Differing standards have been applied over time to determine what is and isn't Buddhavacana My standard is the adherence of the teaching ...

Re: Rishi Stars?

All the waters in the world have been touched by the light of these stars countless times over, and yet, here we are. Think lightly not of goodness, ‘It will not come to me’, for by the falling of water drops a water jar is filled. The sage with goodness fills himself, he soaks up little by little....

Re: Jayarava's New Thesis on Heart Sutra: Sanskrit Version Deliberate Forgery by Tang Chinese

To give an absurd example. Suppose someone excavating in Sarnath comes across a sealed container dating back over two thousand years with a complete set of the prajnaparamita sutras inside. We would be very interested in that. Then suppose Omarosa’s book contains a version of a new sutra that she s...

Nice. “May the dharmakaya appear as anything possible in the whole universe.”
You don't have to wish that...

The "correct" wish would be: May we recognise that "the dharmakaya appear[s] as anything possible in the whole universe."

Well, yes, but that doesn't mean we don't care where teachings come from, or that we have no criteria for deciding whether something is or isn't the dharma.
If it satisfies the Four Dharma Seals then why should I give a crap where it came from and who said/wrote it?
