Re: Natural Cognitive Enhancers?

Our attachment to sugar and aversion to bitterness subside with time. It's just like weaning yourself off a highly desirable drug. The blitz of sugar and flour in modern diets naturally dulls receptivity to the many, many flavors besides sweetness, and starch apparently has a distinct flavor that w...

Re: Schizophrenia and parenthood

Mental illness in general is a really tricky topic as it relates to practice. How would a contemporary psychologist, assuming they were 100% honest in their field, diagnose an enlightened being? Or someone who's even attained stream-entry or any of the bhumi? Or someone had simply witnessed the act...

Re: Natural Cognitive Enhancers?

B vitamins—ample doses of choline are particularly effective and admired by biohackers, MCT oil, unprocessed cacao and a cup of coffee only in the morning are some of my staples. Coffee gets a bad rap, but research on not only its caffeine but phytonutrient and antioxidant content continues to show...

Re: indian food

I just stocked up on some new/common ingredients and made a pretty yummy lunch. First time I've tried them, but I bought a large jar of Curry Leaves (not a curry spice powder, but the south Asian leaf that comes from a tree) 2 Bottles of Ghee Frying oil (80% Ghee / 20% Grapeseed oil) Cumin Seeds, Aj...

I don't have a problem with it as long as tax dollars aren't used for these surgeries. Very little to be concerned with there. The dollar amounts are absolutely miniscule in relation to say, the tax dollar amounts spent on Viagra for the military ($84 MILLION in 2014), nuclear weapons, degradation ...

Re: The Unbearable Lightness of Anatman

Personally, I am glad life has no meaning -- it would be completely depressing if it did. I would have thought that one of the terrible events in this weeks news - the latest mass school shooting - is terrible because of what it means . And it’s also terrible because the perpertrator apparently did...

Re: The Unbearable Lightness of Anatman

Even for extremely experienced people, it can be a struggle to shift from seeking for meaning to practicing to relinquish attachments to such ideas. The topic has never been about this. Even newbies know that grasping BAD! Does it seem like a good idea to tell such a person that life is meaningless...

Re: The Unbearable Lightness of Anatman

eschewing the intricacies of emptiness when someone misunderstands the concept from the get-go is probably the best course of action. Considering a majority of people do not actually understand them anyways. But especially relevant when people find themselves put off to certain ideas due to not bei...

Re: The Unbearable Lightness of Anatman

“It is a double perspective: one understands both the conventional and ultimate without being attached to either one. This is because one sees how meaning exists by virtue of a relative opposite: meaninglessness. In the absence of meaning, there is no substantial non-meaning to cling to either. One...

Re: The Unbearable Lightness of Anatman

If life has meaning, then it would be meaningless to seek liberation from cyclic existence aka life. Can you explain why? Jesse has kindly offered his explanation. My argument is based on the relationship between the purpose of the Dharma and the purpose of life. The Buddha taught that the "source"...

Re: The Unbearable Lightness of Anatman

Buddhism is meaningful only because life, i.e. cyclic existence, is meaningless. Buddhism teaches that life is suffering, not that it's meaningless. If I may, Buddhism essentially teaches both, but I think some language should be clarified. Buddhism teaches particularly that Samsara is suffering, a...

What's not to love about animals? I tend to like cats more though, well maybe about the same. My favorite thing about animals is their honesty. Outside of a few tricks they learn to get food, and attention they are pretty much purely honest creatures.

Funny as it sounds; It's called the Tetris Effect, or Tetris Syndrome http://howtolucid.com/the-tetris-effect/ https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tetris_effect The Tetris effect occurs when people devote so much time and attention to an activity that it begins to pattern their thoughts, mental images, an...

I don't believe anything will happen. Everyone has too much to lose, and absolutely nothing to gain. North Korea Collapsing is Bad for China, Bad for NK, and Bad for the USA who financially backs SK, no-one (intelligent) really wants it to happen. However, Militarily It would allow the USA to positi...

Re: agitated and upset after meditating out of house

It could be any number of things, For one, are you using meditation to alleviate irritation/agitation? If so, it could simply be that you are more aware of those moods after meditating, or it could be that you are more aware of something that was already there, to begin with (Even if you weren't spe...
