Thank you for the link (i.e. Malcolm's post). Two important points: Now this will be spoken in the symbolic language. The perception through senses is the perception imagined by the mind. (Thus) the knowledge obtained in the utpatti-krama (the process of creation) does not lead to the Enlightenment....

Re: The Third Jewel.

Long ago, one Rinpoche said that Sangha is the body of Guru. (may be for vajrayana setting)

When heard the teachings from HHDL, I can regard all sentient beings as my Sangha members without exception. No matter what they believe and what they don’t believe.

Re: Visualisations and Dzogchen

If people know the limitation of deity yoga (i.e. in term of visualization), they are likely to give different opinion. Probably one knows which level of absorption he or she will get with the deity. So, visualization has its own benefits as well as limitations. Deity in the highest level is the pa...

Re: 18 dhatu and samjna and vedana

It may be useful here. Vedanaskandha is the threefold mode of feeling or experiencing sensation which is painful, pleasant, neither-painful-nor-pleasant. One should distinguish six classes of sensations: those which arise from the contact of the five material organs, the organ of sight, etc., with t...

Re: 18 dhatu and samjna and vedana

Hello I want to understand which of the 18 dhatus are samjna, vedana and samskara. I believe that samjna is manovidjnana, and vedana is a collection of five sensual vijnans Thank you It is different categorization. It does not include them: Vedana, Samjna, and Samskara. But they can be included. (j...

Re: Theravadan critique - absolving karma through Bodhisattvas (other power?) clashes with the concept of individual kar

It may be useful here while talking about karma. There are two ways of seeing the event of Buddha Shakyamuni passing away in Kushinagar. One is from the point of view of the shravakas, the listeners to the teachings, and the other is from the point of the vast-minded Mahayana practitioners.... When ...

Let’s suppose someone has done Buddhanusmriti. After sometimes, whenever he hears the name of the Buddha, certain mantel factors will arise without effort. I have remembered that chanting the name of Buddha can purify the vast amount of Karma; it can be explained using buddhist theory as well as non...

It may happen that when one has desire, he or she does not have the resources. When one gets the resources, he or she has already lost the interest. So, it is better to find the resources when one has desire. If one reads or practices without limiting to a small scope or a traditional boundry, one c...

Buddhi: To define, one should understand how they have categorized it. It also depends on which source they are using (i.e. which upanishad). It is related to antahkaraṇa (internal organ); it can be divided into one to five; that depends on texts they are quoting. Commonly used three are intellect (...

Re: What if seeing a lama as pure was less about lifting a lama up and more about bringing purity

It is just like showing the moon by a figure. First, one sees that the person who has taught the essence is as the Buddha. Then, one sees that oneself as the Buddha. And then, one sees all sentient beings as the Buddha.

Re: Brahman and Atman in Kagyu?

Buddhists have various skillful-means. There is no need to negate the anger; negation may be useful for some. Boddhisattva has different way to do it (i.e. accumulation of merits is one-way, and there are other ways.) For vajrayana, it can be transformed as well as self-liberated.

Shakyamuni statue or picture can be depicted in various ways and they are related to major events of his life. With the earth touching mudra there should be a begging bowl (i.e. related with the event). Aksobhya bronze statue, which is in this book , is matching. Or you can check out "The Iconograp...

For the last two questions:
House holder buddhist teachers are not just monks. Wearing similar to monk-rob is not the same one that monks do wear.

Anyone, who has developed some understanding, does not blame the person. Out of the context, intended meaning cannot be known.
