Re: Meat Eating Mantras

Deja Vu It depends on what one has understood and how one is translating. And then, how one is interpreting. Apabhramsa from root trantra: ghana kibida ho vajjai karune kiai na rola/ tahi baru khajjai gade maana pijjai From Malcolm’s translated foot notes: “Ho, play the drum in the assembly! Do not...

Re: Karma

Good question (i.e. how far does similarity go?). Is Buddhist theory of karma the universal like Newton's law? Probably Buddhist karma theory is only applies to Buddhist because they are only believed by Buddhist. In that case, it is not universal as other traditions have different understanding of...

Re: Karma

I've heard the law of karma likened to Newton's law: Every action has an equal and opposite reaction. How far does the similarity go? To what extent is karma, like physics, deterministic and mechanical? To what extent, and how, is it different? What is Karma? It is just about wholesome and unwholes...

Re: Awareness: singular, or composite?

If there is one citta (awareness), the pratityasamutpada would not be applied (i.e. there would be simultaneous arising of cause and result). If there are many cittas, the pratityasamutpada would not be applied (i.e. cessation of former will not be the cause of later). Thus, there is no singular and...

Re: Questions on Meditation

When one is breathing by taking longer time, it is long breath. When one is breathing by taking shorter time, it is short breath. This is one perspective. Medium breath! Why not? If one is breathing by talking medium time, it is medium breath. Lol I heard some hindu yogis recounting their experience...

Re: nirvana mathematically not possible

Different people have different viewpoints on this matter. It is really not logical to say that one will attain a particular fruit without entering into the particular path. Nor will one be free from fetters over the course of time. There is a text call Maha Prajnaparamita Sastras attributed to Nag...

Their immortals/fairies do appear in Buddhist sutra as another separate class of beings that are neither devas nor humans interestingly.
If you do not mind, please tell us which sutra you are talking about as you have mentioned it few times.

Even though both are using snake and rope metaphor, but their presentation and the meaning are completely different. There are many similar techniques and metaphors (snake, crystal, separation of atma-ananma/”mind and nature of mind”, etc.) both are using. But such metaphors are used to demonstrate...

Re: nirvana mathematically not possible

One of the characteristic of Mahayana is to continue benefiting others whether they are in samsara or they passed into Nirvana. Mahayana passing into Nirvana is not entering into peace and cessation. If that is so, then Sakyamuni would enter into that type of Nirvana when he met previous numerous Bu...

Re: Natural State and the individual state

If they did, they were mistaken. There is nowhere in Nagarjuna or Aryadeva where they use formal syllogisms to prove emptiness. Candra’s main project is defending Buddhapalita from Bhavya’s assertion that the latter did not adequately flesh out his refutation of Samkhya, in addition to taking Bhavy...

Even Nyingma master said that Nagarjuna emptiness and Chandrakirti emptiness are different (i.e. their focus aspect). If they did, they were mistaken. Re: Natural State and the individual state

Self may mean different things for different groups of people. Buddhist definition for Self and non-buddhist definition for Self both are quite different. Their etymology is different. But many people regard they are just the same. First people should actually listen how Lopön Tenzin Namdak would ex...

Re: Direct perception of interdependent origination

Nagarjuna indeed has different focus. It is not about the cessation of nutriment. avidyāyā nirodhas tu (The cessation of ignorance occurs through) jñānasyāsyaiva bhāvanāt (contemplation on Jnana). What he means by jnana in that context is up to the interpretation.

You do understand that this unconvincing bullshit, right? You may think I am just taking all kinds of mumbo jumbo. This is just an example. The beheading of the red dragon for women and the subduing of the white tiger for men mark the completion of the first stage of the alchemical practice. The hal...

Re: Direct perception of interdependent origination

Please check the Dhasabhumika sutra , you will find how to contemplate dependent origination. It is not necessary to wait to attain particular bhumi and then engage in that type of contemplation. It has described more comprehensive methods of contemplation using ten aspects of dependent origination ...

The point is that it is not actually important to retain semen itself. Women do not retain their reproductive tissue, why should men? This inconsistency is rarely noted. Semen itself is not the point but one will not get those points without retaining the semen. First, these types of narratives are...

Re: Functions of ejaculation in Tibetan medicine

What Rinpoche said is very correct and his presentation emphasizes in the rigpa. The clear light mind has different methods on which those texts are focused on. Even though they (clear light mind and rigpa) are essential same, but they have different approach of the path (i.e. how to proceed). Then,...
