Re: Non-duality in dzogchen

I think Lopön Tenzin Namdak and Kongtrul have differing opinions on this matter. That's ok as far as I'm concerned. To each his own. They don have differing opinions actually, but in your strange misconception of the Dzogchen, you imagine they do. There’s more than one way to skin a cat. :namaste:

Re: The Dangers of Diluted Buddhism

It reads nicely but does not name names and provide examples I guess I'm supposed to fill in the blanks with my own projections? He may not have named names, but he did mention places. It is a Buddhism shorn of anything objectionable to the upscale inhabitants of London, Santa Monica, and Manhattan...

Without pinning down who KR sees as his root guru, I think it safe to say that he has received authentic lineage transmissions.

Presumably Bokar R. But that's just my guess.

Re: Is Anatta incompatible with rebirth?

By the way, did we ever resolve what the word "awareness" means for the purpose of this discussion? Is it the same as consciousness, or different? Is it the same as mind, or different? I still think that Q is dealing with the contradiction in terms his definition of awareness entails: an awareness ...

Re: Is Anatta incompatible with rebirth?

Reincarnation says that there is continuity.

Anatta says that there is no consistency, that there is nothing to limit the metamorphosis.

The two ideas are not mutually exclusive.

I suggest that whatever you were doing when you saw everything as perfect, go back to doing that.

Re: I believe the lower realms can be emptied in a day

I believe a particular Buddha or bodhisattva could manifest in infinite bodies and perform these mantras ( dharanis ) or tantric texts for each individual being to liberate them from their pains ( lower realms ).
I assumed they are already doing that!

My guess is they can’t do it alone.

Re: Situation of Kalu Rinpoche

He just came here for a weekend. Some pretty conservative western monks and nuns, who previously had reservations about him, were favorably impressed. These were all students of the old Kalu R. He eschews a lot of pomp and circumstance. He came at an unannounced time by cab, thus avoiding a grandios...

Re: Psychoanalysis

During his life the founder of AA, Bill W., proudly wrote about the 12 Steps being incorporated into some form of Buddhism in Japan. He did not say which kind of Buddhism however. In any case apparently he did not see the 12 Steps as being Christian specific.

Re: Are sentient beings trapped on their home planet?

Are sentient beings trapped on their home planets until they attain enlightenment? Nope. If we blow this place up we will have to go somewhere else. If so I really hope we don’t have to do the equivalent of that interminable dinosaur thing again. That took forever and was a total drag. It would be ...

Re: Psychoanalysis

Following that absolutist logic, things like the 12 steps are also just attempts to fix our samsara, and would fit under the broad category of stuff you are criticizing, but I know you think highly of those. I see the 12 Steps as an incomplete path. There’s no final liberation from “self” per se. B...

Re: Psychoanalysis

You’ve got to have your head screwed on somewhat straight in order to practice Dharma. If you’re too screwed up you’ll only make things worse. Having said that, my understanding is that your psyche is your unawareness and your limitations—your samsara. It is what you become liberated from . If so th...

Re: After achieving rainbow body?

Yes, otherwise why do we pray to Guru Rinpoche, Garab Dorje, etc. for blessings, empowerments, etc. I think they can manifest in multiple forms, places, and manners as need arises and karma permits. :good: Supplications related to Dharma or benefiting beings produce such uncanny results that I had ...
