Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

Just for a different perspective, John Tettemer, the early 20th century Catholic theologian I referenced earlier, couldn’t reconcile his non-dual experience with the idea of original sin. Contrary to Catholic orthodoxy he realized we are never apart from Truth. We just don’t know it. Catholicism say...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

Safe to say that non-dual awareness is not compatible with the idea of a dualistic, omnipotent, judgmental, creator "God".

Anyone disagree?

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

It is clear in this paragraph that the Christian view is considered mistaken. It is baffling that people apparently read this and think he is saying that Christians are actually somehow practicing Dzogchen. Besides me, who here has ever asserted that Christians practice Dzogchen? The only time I ev...

Re: Guess who said this?

I think it's a mistake, no matter what level of tantra one is practicing, to dismiss deities as "not real" based on some sort of "nondual" or "Mind Nature" equivalence. Lama Chodrak's comments reflect the view of a Kagyu gradualist approach to deity yoga which is the way it is taught and practiced ...

Re: Guess who said this?

Oops, yes, I meant if you understand god as a person or not. Nope. Not that. But once you get into yidams and dharmapalas it can sure seem that way. Yes. But this is a common misconception of people who do not really practice a yidam or dharmapala. Isn't it? At least I believe so. As soon as one pr...

Re: Guess who said this?

I guess it runs down to the question if you have a personal or non-personal understanding of god. If you mean “God/Buddha is a person”, then no I don’t believe that. In fact, if you read the linked article, Situ R says that if there are any mental processes happening then it isn’t “Buddha”. If you ...

Re: Guess who said this?

Funny you say that, because for me that is exactly the reason why he could not be equated with God, I think the analog to God is rather the primordial essence
Good chance primordial essence and godhead are fungible. At least that’s kinda my interpretation of Situ R’s quote.

Re: Guess who said this?

Anyways, I suspect that if Situ R. was to anonymously post here he would be shot down as not knowing what he was talking about. Just sayin' Doesn't need much fantasy to imagine that  What I meant to say is just that I don't really see what sense it makes to equate Buddha and God. If he had s...

Re: Guess who said this?

I don't know if it's slander....but I think the quotes, taken out of context, lead to assumptions that are not borne out by What Rinpoche is saying. Which is why it is incumbent upon people to read the context in the above link. Forget about his perspectives on Christianity. Just ignore that. It's ...

Re: Guess who said this?

I would have guessed Eckardt Tolle, because I find the idea of equating Buddha and God completely misguided.... The link above is actually from Situ R.'s "Creation and Completion". In another section he talks about leaning towards being an eternalist--of sorts. There is nothing that is not primordi...

Guess who said this?

This is supposed to be a poll, but I can't figure out how to format it that way. If a mod would make it a real poll that would be nice. Here are the quotes: I don't mind saying "god", this is not a problem for me. One is spelt G-O-D. The other is spelt B-U-D-D-H-A. There is no difference to me; it i...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

Even telling them to focus on an activity deity such as Jambhala is of no benefit, since these activity deities are not complete paths. Only bodhisattvas like Mañujuśrī, Avalokiteśvara, Tāra, and so on will function in this way for ordinary people who have no regular yidam practice. If they have “t...

Re: Quote by ChNNR about Dzogchen and God - where is it from?

There is actually no evidence for the historical personality, Jesus of Nazareth, apart from Christian sources.
Uh huh. And how many contemporaneous records do we have about Sakyamuni? Nāgārjuna? Padmasambhava? Milarepa?

Re: Visiting His Holiness the 17th Gyalwang Karmapa, Ogyen Trinley Dorje

We had a woman from Tokyo spend 3 weeks here trying to get an interview with HHK. That was the entire purpose of her trip. She failed.

But maybe Bhutanese have it easier.
