LYWA also offer LZR's "Abiding in the Retreat" which is a compilation of teachings
serving as a commentary for the practice. FPMT also offer a manual/guidebook for performing
this ritual as well.

Re: Catuṣkoṭi analysis used by the Buddha himself

I am not certain that you will necessarily find examples in Sutra (or purported words of the Buddha himself-whatever that means, IDK).
The Catuskoti, at least in terms of actual examples from a textual source, I believe is primarily associated with Arya Nagarjuna.

Re: Is it rare to spend time with your guru?

I doubt that this is a Gelug, Vajrayana, or Mahayana specific view on Guru devotion, but LZR always seems to place a much greater emphasis and importance on the level of devotion rather than closeness of contact when it comes to receiving the blessings of the guru. I came across this today and it ma...

Wisdom Publications has just released a book of Lama Yeshe's teachings on Mahamudra.
Maybe that would prove useful.

Kathmandu Valley Pilgrimage/Nagarjun Hill/Jamacho questions

Hi all, I will be traveling to Nepal next Spring for Tour/Pilgrimage/Trek. The more I read about Kathmandu valley, the more excited and intrigued I become about different sites and I hope for as much opportunity for practice/ merit making as possible. Currently, I have been reading some of Keith Dow...

Re: Why does Gelug school claim emptiness means things exist without self nature?

Why do Gelugs claim this They do not claim that things exist without self-nature. They claim that things exist dependent on imputations made upon a collections of parts. They claim that the emptiness taught by the Buddha is simply the emptiness of true existence that is the absence of the inherent ...

Re: Does this Vajrasattva practice require empowerment/initiation by a lama?

Instruction from LZR himself and other FPMT teachers; this is fine for daily practice, but you can not visualize yourself as the deity (really any deities) without having received a Great initiation (HYT). In this case you are to visualize the deity in front and carry on with the rest of the practic...

Re: Mahayana & philosophical background for Dzogchen

My experiences with the aforementioned texts by Chandrakirti and Shantarakshita are that they are steeped in the debates between Tenet systems. And, if I am not mistaken the wisdom section of Shantideva's Bodhicaryavatara is as well. With that said I feel that with these texts it is first nice to ap...

In another lifetime I was once a graduate student who dabbled in ethnomusicology and we used

I have no idea.

Re: Choosing Yogacara over Madhyamaka

If a person feels like the Yogacara view makes sense to them, is it okay for them to hold that view and not try to deconstruct it with Madhyamaka? Does believing in Yogacara create obstacles on the path to Buddhahood? I would like to humbly add a few things and please correct me if I am wrong. 1) A...

HHST Yamantaka initiation 2018

Hi all. Was wondering if anyone had any specifics about the upcoming Yamantaka initiation in Boston this April. What sort of commitments does HHST typically give? And sort of related to another recent thread; how reconcilable is receiving this initiation from HHST if one is a Gelug FPMT practitioner...

Khedrup,
Could you recommend a text that presents a good over view of the Ground and Paths at the sutra level?
I am studying Jetsun Choekyi Gyaltsen's Presentation of Tenets and have found that this is
an area where I have a bit of a gap in my knowledge.
