Re: Seeing All Beings as Buddhas.
Thanks for that David, I am not into online dharma combats and otherwise you know the answer. I was addressing the view that there is nothing to practice and no enlightenment to attain. There is plenty of suffering within or without, and such view often does little more than hide the head in sand (o...

Re: Dedication to truth
In pali texts the encouragement ehi passico (come and see) as well as the words of Kalama Sutta come to mind, but I am sure there are more pertinent texts. Of course there are the Noble Truths as well as the Buddha encouragement of skeptical inquiring mind, such as the approval of Sariputta(?) in on...

Re: The new landscape
I think Western Buddhists could do with a bit less intellectualizing and study... and more practice. More Action. Just my opinion. I don't know about Western Buddhists but I should always do more practice. Mr Shel, We are probably talking past each other. My comment about "shining light on wha...

Re: The new landscape
The answer is in my post, if you read the second half of the sentence. You mean, "shine light on what is confused, conflicted and confining." I will point out that in order to shine light on what is confused, conflicted and confining we need to ourselves not be confused, conflicted and co...

But this is just a suggestion which I am sure can be pulled apart with enough diligence.
Or it could be used for something else entirely. According to one's inclination.

Re: The new landscape
Forums are largely a collective result of the members interaction. If people see the potential in online Buddhist interaction they should put energy into it and the forums will liven up. Personally I find there is too much to do in the "physical" world to spend much time online but this mu...

Yes, 24/7.
So what need is there of Zen? (and "How useful are Chan records?")

Re: How useful are Chan records?
Quite so! There are no real problems, but we are convinced there are. Problem making is what we do so well. Second only to belief-making. As to "the one who creates" he is just another one of these beliefs. But back to the koans, my friend. Have a good read of the Blue Cliff Record, there ...

Re: Please welcome Henry to the team!
You are getting me all wrong, Mr Shel. For all I know, you may be exactly the sort of guy, I'd want for a son-in-law (or a father-in-law) and I do love my daughter dearly. What I've tried to do here is question some particulars of your post, their factual accuracy and their motivation. As far as you...

Re: Please welcome Henry to the team!
Methinks I spy a teenee-weenee chip on someone's virtual shoulder? Why would I have a chip on my shoulder? And if I do have a chip on my shoulder does that invalidate everything I've said on the subject? Is E-sangha Watch an expression of a chip on someones shoulder? and if so does that invalidate ...

Re: How useful are Chan records?
Huseng, to begin with, koan studies can seem totally inacessible, and even intimidating. You may find that there is not even a single koan in the Blue Cliff Record that you are able to interpret. dont worry about the way others interpret, find your own interpretation. sit with a koan and work at it...

Re: Please welcome Henry to the team!
Just so there's no misunderstanding about my previous posts, I completely support Henry's online efforts, in fact I tried to talk Jundo Cohen Roshi and Nonin Chowaney Roshi to take down the E-sangha Watch website in a discussion at zenforuminternational.org. Unfortunately they would not budge on th...
