Re: Names of the karmapas

I'm sure I've seen the list before but can't remember where. I think there used to be a very good Karmapa blog online that might have had this info but It doesn't seem to show up in the search results on google anymore or I'm just not seeing it.

Re: Intellectualism and Dzogchen

I think whether or not study is useful is how much confidence a person has in recognition and how well the person remembers the appropriate teaching/ pith instruction most relevant for any given moment. If there are still doubts, then books and metaphors can still be useful. If there are no more dou...

Re: View in Mahayoga, Anuyoga and Atiyoga

I think this is touched upon in the Supreme Source. There is a difference in how appearances are treated in sems sde, klong sde, and man ngag sde. See Treasury of Dharmadhātu. Good point. I somehow forgot about that text despite having gone through it more times than the Supreme Source .Longchenpa'...

Re: What is convincing to you?

Repeated exposure to logically sound arguments on the topic. For the most part, I don't think people actually change their minds very much, more like just confirmation bias shifting tracks. I can't even recall the last time I had a complete change of heart. I think you're right. I think we see bias...

Re: Confusion

tenma, you're young and still in an educational environment and are devoted to Saraswati so you will be at a great advantage if you focus on learning the dharma correctly rather than jumping too soon in to practices you don't actually understand the foundations of adequately let alone the nuances. Re: Confusion

Recently, we resulted in this. And I'm very confused now with the Mahayana teachings. In the Mahayana teachings, it says that hell and the Buddha's paradise are one and the same. How is it that realizing all things as equal in emptiness a wrong view? I'm very confused now. Aren't all things delusio...

Re: Suicidal Thoughts

Okay, so as mentioned in the Santa Muerte forum, I sometimes have suicidal thoughts coming up during samadhi and nowhere else. what is samadhi? Is it pure emptiness without thought? Or is it emptiness with realization in it through thoughts and thinking about it? I have no clue now on my practice. ...

Re: Santa La Muerte

I have never heard of meditation creating suicidal thoughts. What kind of meditation are you doing? Are you first generating bodhicitta? Yes, but during samadhi, it goes wrong. All things are delusions, but the idea of the body being a delusion sometimes gives the idea of suicide and no point in li...

This is dharma 101. If you honestly don't know what is meant in Buddhism by afflictions, then this is a sign you havn't studied sufficiently to really develop your view and meditation. http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Destructive_emotions http://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Eight_worldl...

Re: Santa La Muerte

There's no way for us to know if you're doing your practice correctly. If your afflictions are decreasing, this is a good sign. If you pay more attention to cause and effect, this is a good sign. If you have increaased compassion and less self-fixation. There are lots of other important signs like t...

P.s - Tenma, Are you practicing for the benefit of all sentient beings or is it really just for some supernatural thrills? You're what, like 14-15? In high school? At that age, you're still finding a sense of who you are as a person in this world, in your family, peer-group, society etc. Having an ...

Re: Santa La Muerte

As Vasana said previously, "Obsession with the supernatural is probably a stronger mara than any genuine encounter so bear that in mind long term." Turns out to be VERY true. Her followers here think it's a way to "honor the Aztec traditions" and their culture/ethnicity. Also, according to one of t...

Re: In 'The Beginning' ?

Why do people blindly accept a Beginning and rarely consider a continuum without beginning or end ? Because both are equally mind boggling and people prefer a more familiar boggle to a new one. To be fair, most people who have heard of the big crunch/bounce theory will often mention it if the big b...

Dearest White lotus Please understand that you can't just present the dharma in your own idiosyncratic style divorced from the language and terminology that the dharma has been traditionally communicated for centuries, millennia. It may well be that you have cottonned on to a valid understanding but...
