Re: Emptiness disorientation

Reading up on how shamatha can allow more genuine vipashyana to arise might be apt. Thrangu Rinpoche has a lot of material on this. As you said, it's good to dedicate time with no conceptual analysis so this may aswell be shamatha practice. Thank you for this advice. I actually have a lot of proble...

Re: Bodhisattva's Enlightenment & Vajrayāna - Doubt

Do they help us/me? How we can receive their help? I haven't felt their help clearly. The other analogy used in the guru yoga is of a hook and ring. The buddhas have a "hook of compassion" and our practice is called a "ring of faith" by which a connection is made that brings us ...

Re: Lifetimes completing cycle of Dependent origination

Some karma can ripen in the same life. How law of Dependent origination allows this? It seems to allow projecting karma only. Can someone explain how law of Dependent origination allow karma to ripen in same life? I have heard it needs two lives at least. I think it depends on the kind of karma and...

Re: "Liberation through seeing" tattoo

If you really wanted to ensure that people encountered liberation through seeing mantras i'm sure you could find other ways. I think even just having a little part of you being motivated by your own cosmetic/worldy enhancement isn't the best thing to 'mix' with mantra/dharma. Even when done with sin...

Re: Mahamudra, Dzogchen, Zen

In terms of Dzogchen teachers who speak eloquently like the excerpt you shared, I reccomend James Low who has been authorized to teach and is qualified to do so. He has a really great way with words, metaphors and storytelling and often speaks in a way similar to the quote you shared. There's loads ...

Re: Veganism is an Eating Disorder

It occurs to me that vegan bears a stigma, that nullifies unwanted awareness of shame or disgrace. The term carnism- another weaponised term- carries a counter mark of disgrace. That aside, I do not think I am alone in saying that many people would rather reduce their own health, if that means a ne...

Re: Veganism is an Eating Disorder

Did you ever notice that vegan food is often unpalatable and, not infrequently, unpleasant to the sense organs? No, I haven't. I have noticed that a lot of people have this perception though. I restaurant recently opened near me called the Butcher's son. It's vegan, but you wouldn't know. They do t...

Re: Are demons mentioned in Buddhism actually just bad karma?

Thanks everyone. I understand that all bad experiences are a product of bad karma, but the experiences where it seems like you are being tested, which seem as it is a intelligent being doing you harm are the experiences that I wander if they are just bad karma making it appear as demonic or are the...

Re: Buddha and Non-Dual Means

It depends on your definition of 'means'.

The Buddha taught non-duality, but Tantra is distinguished for having a wider repertoire of means and methods available to realize the fruit.

Re: Is offering unhealthy food to Buddhas and Boddhisattvas harming them?

Offering to Buddhas is so sentient beings can acquire merit. They're not really in need of what you offer but accept your offering for your benefit. Even just offering water in a clean bowl is fine and is very common. You can also offer to the Buddhas and Bodhisattvas mentally by imagining light spr...

Re: Practical Recognition of Ignorance

I was thinking earlier, and I began to wonder.. what is ignorance really? By that I mean, In everyday life, how do we 'notice' ignorance, what are we looking for? I believe this would require deep introspection and meditation to start. However, from there, how do we recognize ignorance, what form d...

If they are guardians of the teaching then i would hazard a guess that you'll find them looking after the buddhist centres and practitioners in the city that they'reconnected with. The features of their environment may not always mirror ours. Maybe they have preferred geographical dwellings but to s...

We are more fortunate than we likely often realize to be alive at the time of the 14th Dalai Lama as the Dharma's light-rays spreads globally.

May his compassionate activity continue to flourish and may he continue to captivate and attract countless beings towards virtue, bodhichitta and liberation.

Re: All Sentient Beings will attain Buddhahood?

If we are to take the bodhisattva ideal literally, then why wouldn't you expect all beings to attain Buddhahood? If compassion is a natural quality of realization and time is not a restricting factor, then why would some beings be excluded from that? Presumably because just as time is infinite, so ...
