Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Greg, if you are reading this thread still, what do you think of these two posts? BTW, our friend, Doc Togden, is from a recognized lineage too —— he is actually a Dudjom Tersar guy. I know a Bhutanese Khenpo, the teacher of some people here, for example, who attended Chogyam's Dudjom Tersar Troma N...

Re: Without Buddha I could Not Be a Christian

problem with this concept is that Buddhadharma is not about understanding god. It is also not short on content. The author said neither of those things. I think Christians are searching more for a way of experiencing and understanding God This combined with: So I think Buddhism is providing ...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Unless we are discussing Mexican cuisine, the authenticity debate is fruitless. The better question is whether or not a particular Dharma group is helpful or harmful. A related discussion involves what canons of evidence or reason you use to measure harm or help. It's also worthwhile to reflect on w...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Has anybody here seen the terma/teaching/sadhana? We have an answer to that question in a thread you and I both participated in some years ago. sdw, a longtime Aro gTer participant, told us all about it. relevant material before and after this post https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?t=11438#p147...

Re: Question about removing christian/etc. baptism

I've always thought that this was an interesting topic even outside of Buddhism. I attended a Catholic baptism a few years ago ( I was brought up Catholic so it was interesting to see what happened to me) and although my Latin is not great I recognized that the baptism involved an Exorcism of any s...

I mean to remove this "empowerment", if you forgive me the expression.
Stop believing in the power of baptism and it will have no power of you.

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

Well, if this thread has taught me one thing, it is the danger of denying the validity of relative truth. How quickly and easily denying it's validity leads to ego-centered nihilism. Who is denying the validity of relative truth? Related: Earlier in this thread, you claimed that Dharma is an ultima...

As long as you become more irritated you are probably on the right track whatever you're doing. So true... ...so i am sitting in this two day idiot Training in connection with my work. ...then they start talking about something like the mind or the body, total bs. ...so i think about my realization...

Re: The Aro Authenticity Debate.

I just copy an empowerment from a text I found somewhere and start bestowing it, people believe it as genuine, voila, blessings. This is exactly, precisely, the very thing Sakya Paṇḍita accused Nyingmapas of doing, that is, finding old books in the ground for which the they did not have the...

Any takers for the question regarding Doc Chogyam's teachers?
This is a good question to ask if you are thinking of taking teachings from these people, or are a social scientist or historian doing research.

Re: The Arya Sanghata Sutra

I believe it is a grave transgression to slander the Dharma, and as this text is Dharma, I can only bow to it with revence and respect. Nevertheless, from my limited viewpoint here in Samsara as a defiled being, I must admit there is much about this sutra that puzzles me. I seem to have failed to r...

However, Captain Beefheart wants to Booglarize Ya Baby.... It works best on West German TV. "a right burlesque title..." I've lived in the US my whole live and never heard anyone use the word "burglarizer" in the way bristollad describes. I have heard the term "burglarize" in gangster movies from the 1930's. But never in modern language. Must be a cop term: "Three Stooges Burglarize Cell Phone Store" Burglarize, sure...

Re: What it means to be a ngakpa

Of course defining yourself by a narrow set of criteria is a limitation. Taking vows is a limitation. Hello! Vows in Vajrayana are liberatory. Remember? A famous Khenpo, the teacher of my teacher Khenpo Migmar, told Khenpo Migmar, "Sometimes, taking a vow is taking a vow to create more nonvirtue." ...

Re: What it means to be a ngakpa

This is why, I think, the language ChNN uses around vows as an appropriate limitation for a Hinayana practitioner might not be appropriately applied in this context. ChNN (long life to him) is a particular teacher, in a specific lineage, with a certain view. Now while his views may be of tantamount...
