Re: Dalai Lama, visiting the Netherlands, gets tough with abusers

But my point is, and if we accept at face value that Buddhas and Bodhisattvas appear where they are yearned for... we prepare the place for them and then wait with yearning. We don't need to think that much, plan that much, theorize that much. The authentic teachers will come to those circumstances...

Re: Dalai Lama, visiting the Netherlands, gets tough with abusers

We need teachers to emerge who are fully American. How that happens - how some American kid becomes a Buddhist sage, we are going to have to figure out. Seeing sanghas go gray with no new blood tells me - we're not doing it right. [...] Raising sages seems to me the most pressing concern for the Am...

Re: How do we deal with working amongst unprofessional co workers?

I am in the process of looking for a decent job while I attend school online to further my education. In my current job, I work around others who are often rude and just plain unprofessional. How can I deal with these types of individuals while maintaining my composure and own sense of professional...

It would be worthwhile to ask if the category "human realm" is necessarily limited only to births as homo sapiens sapiens.

Are you ready for that. As far as I see, you are all entangled in the hinayana/therwada/Mahayana sutra. No one understand or is ready to understand the LOTUS SUTRA . And without understanding benefits will be far from you. Since 2012, I have been visiting Dharma Wheel off and on to explain Lotus su...

Re: Signs from the Dakinis?

I think this is why avoiding the 'three faults of a pot' is so important, especially higher one gets in teachings. As someone with inferior intelligence and understanding, could I ask you to please elaborate on this, specifically on the 'three faults of a pot'? Some are upside-down. Can't be filled...

I remember that book and remember finding it fun. Not sure how much it has to do with Buddhism. Lots of cool logical puzzles, patterns and self-references. Dennett's philosophy is rather dry though, from memory..
Agree on Dennett. Dry in the sense of being limited or feeling constricted.

Re: What's a "pure tradition"?

You seem to think the only authentic pure Ford is a prototype Model T that Henry himself made by hand. I think a 2019 Mustang GT is every bit as pure a Ford as a Model T—and a lot more fun to drive! It is either Dharma or it isn't, whether it comes from a terma discovered behind a toilet in Kalimpo...

Re: What's a "pure tradition"?

Sooo.... If there are enlightened masters alive today, and... If you receive teachings from such as master, then... You have just received 100# pure Dharma. Isn’t that the premise? This is uncontroversial in many Mahayana traditions. Maybe most of 'em. I would swap out "pure" for "authentic," thoug...

It goes without saying that life is easier under nearly all circumstances for straights than gays. This is in evidence in this thread, where some comments that amount to harassment have been removed by the moderators. Thank you for that, moderating team. Re: What's a "pure tradition"?

Kadampa itself is also a re-presentation of the teachings and was newly developed by Atisha. I think everybody accepts this new development from Atisha. I don’t think Atisha invented anything. He imported Mahayana that was already present in India. Right? He did, he presented Buddha's teachings in ...

Re: Question about homosexuality & life's experience...

At any rate... Precepts are guidelines, not commandments, and as Nichiren Buddhists, we are only concerned with the Diamond Chalice Precept of upholding the daimoku. The merit of keeping precepts is contained in that practice, guaranteeing that even us filthy homosexuals have Buddha Nature and will...

Re: Question about homosexuality & life's experience...

Sometimes I find myself thinking "maybe I shouldn't be gay (or try dating anymore) since so few people i've encountered seem to want anything more than just a fling" but then I realize, "this isn't just about "gay men" and it's prob just as bad when it comes to heterosexuals as well. I mean, I hear...
