Re: Instant Presence and Physical Pain

It's is not off topic, but intimately related to the whole topic. Because in the definitive sutras, 'sentient being' and 'suffering' are just words, their real meaning is 'buddha' and 'bliss' respectively. Therefore, we cannot pretend to be in the position of sentient beings when discussing the def...

Re: Practical Book Recommendations?

here's a daily pure land practice (one example). notice it begins with refuge and ends with dedication of merits. you'll also notice many other similarities because it's Buddha Dharma.

Re: Martin Luther King Day

On the anti-racism front, I think this fellow is very much on the right track: “The only culture that white people and upper-middle-class white people have is whiteness,” Henson explains. “To fit in that class, you must strip yourself of everything else. What I would like to do is show white working...

I notice as of late in various media and here the use of the phrase"The American Experiment" i find it a dangerous paradigm for it lets the country off the hook for so many things. After all it's all just an experiment.. watch the movie American Made and see what really happened with the contra aff...

You may also want to make sure you are not deficient in Vitamin D.
That's an interesting point. I was diagnosed with low vitamin D last week and now I'm on a daily D supplement. It's great.

Re: Where are 1% of Americans?

Recall democracy's old pal Erlichmann: I started to ask Ehrlichman a series of earnest, wonky questions that he impatiently waved away. “You want to know what this was really all about?” he asked with the bluntness of a man who, after public disgrace and a stretch in federal prison, had little left ...

Re: Psoriasis

What will work depends on what is causing it. Almost everybody that has been cured will quote a different treatment. Have you tried pine or birch tar soap? It works really well for other skin conditions. Buy the proper stuff from a Baltic country. The EU produced stuff (like Wright's Coal Tar Soap)...

Re: Psoriasis

I find I can't use soaps, even the "clinically proven" special ones. Instead, bathe in just water. For really bad episodes bathe in oats. I very gently exfoliate every day and then apply Aveeno cream. It seems to work really well for me, even though the traditional advice is to not exfoliate. A cha...

It’s unpleasant Yes, it is. Suggestions? I developed psoriasis in the scalp in 2013. I was referred by my doctor to a specialist. The specialist confirmed the diagnosis and basically said I would have to live with it for the rest of my life. He prescribed some chemicals to treat it with, which woul...

To put things into perspective, based on my limited experience for a years, in Singapore most Tibetan Buddhist teachings are free, mainly I believe due to Chinese Mahayana culture influence that donating to Dharma activities generates immersive merits. Hence wealthy patrons and Chinese associations ...

:good: I think that rory is asking if the teachings are for sale. If so, then her questions are completely relevant and should be clarified directly and immediately. No, they are irrelevant. This year I am organising, for the second time, a "seminar" with our teacher Loppon Ogyan Tanzin Rinpoche. La...

Does it require $ to get teachings/empowerments from Nyingma teachers for lay people? Do you have to go to a specific place that costs money? Your questions are irrelevant. I think that rory is asking if the teachings are for sale. If so, then her questions are completely relevant and should be cla...

Re: What's wrong with democracy?

The roots of individualism and liberalism in Anglo democracies stem from, once again, the Scottish Enlightenment -- Smith, Burke, Locke, and Hume. This has nothing to do with Christ or Christianity. Aside from it being the culture that gave rise to the ‘Scottish Enlightenment’.... I would argue tha...

They are showing that they are the kinds of practitioners who assume the best in their erstwhile teacher and who try to s...

I think I understand. She's telling me that all of Zen Buddhism is complete nonsense and I need to spend my time doing something else. No. You have not understood at all. If you are in the habit of jumping to conclusions like this, you will probably have a hard time learning. I encourage you to con...
