Re: Tibetan Word of the Day

Also used generally as a term for modern-day translator. In which context and by whom? I know a few translators, and only one of them really uses that title. In some translation circles one person who uses it a lot is an unfortunate object of mockery as a result. I don't know any Nyingma or Kagyu L...

Re: Yangsi Penor Rinpoche found!

So a couple interestings side notes to this: 1. This is the first time ever that Chatral Rinpoche has been involved with the recognition of a tulku. That is debatable. Some would say that he has informally been involved before, although he has also been critical of the tradition. For the record, he...

Re: Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma, Volume Five?

So apparently there is an auction being held by Shambhala Sun magazine, and one of the listings is this gem: https://www.biddingforgood.com/auction/item/item.action?id=202593428 That's right, folks. They're estimating the value of a four-volume set of Karma Chakme's Mountain Dharma at $115... and t...

Penor Rinpoche Yangsi

Has anyone heard anything about this? I suspect that soon there will be an announcement about the Penor Rinpoche Yangsi. I suspect that he will have a twin brother and will have been found in the Pharping area outisde Kathmandu, with some sort of recognition letter written by a very hard to see Nyin...

Re: Passing of Karma Chagme Rinpoche

It was quite a wonderful event. Many many great Lamas in attendance and doing the rituals. My phone played up so I don't have any pics to share unfortunately.

It's not set in stone. I am supposed to do some work in Lapchi and Pokara, but there are some tiring family matters I also need to attend to. Sometimes I wish I had done things differently.

It's on Labab Duchen, which is the 24th. You have made comments implying you have some connections at Neydo, it's better if you ask them perhaps. I am going, but have not so much choice in the matter.

Re: are english-tibetan translators needed nowadays?

I'm not a translator, but am fluent in Tibetan. There is a massive lack of competent Tibetan-English translators. Most of the the oral translators are people who sort of know Tibetan, and then get told by their Lama to translate. On the textual front, the problem is that even the translation groups ...

Re: HH Karmapa UTD to teach 3 Principal Aspects of Path

This sort of thing makes my bitter heart briefly happy. Really when the sun of non-sectarianism shines we should all rejoice. One of my root-Gurus is basically a Dzogchen master, but his teachings that benefitted me most were from Tsongkhapa and Drakpa Gyaltsen. Yesterday a Sakya Lama gave me tons o...

Re: Murder of Akong Rinpoche & Entourage

Lama Yeshe Rinpiche has formally requested he is spared, along with his accomplices...try to generate bodhicitta for them. Lama Yeshe Losal Rinpoche has to be one of the most forgiving people I have ever met. There was a sort of scandal caused by a monk at his monastery which was probably the worst...

Re: Chod Accoutrements

This is all classic stuff that one should get from ones Lama. The website in the OP, and several similar ones are run for profit and are selling things at hugely inflated prices. The standard drums, as well as the human remains things, kanglings and skull cups, are not sources in Bhutan, but in Nepa...
