Re: Greetings

And now comes the sad time to leave this wonderful place! I have tried to help out and it is enough to have met so many enlightening beings! The old generation must step aside for the young and attend to practicing Dharma with all the sincerity and open heart possible for such antiques! My w...

Re: Hello from Oregon

Do you understand "A gentle rain is falling all over the earth.?" I heard that once. But no one nowadays seems to understand it! My Vipassana mediation teachers mentioned flowers falling like rain in relation to the teachings, metta and meditation. If you have a story to share about this ...

Re: Classic Kagyü Mahāmudrā Texts

As a fan of books, (and of whisky), I appreciate all your sentiments. Frankly, I like Bokar Rinpoche's little condensation of Ngedon Gyamtso the best, because I think it's doesn't give away the farm, but is a nice tool to help you ask yourself appropriate questions. "Opening the ...

Re: Classic Kagyü Mahāmudrā Texts

Both Ngedon Gyamtso and Chakchen Dawai Ozer are "manuals," and both do present the sort of "question and answer" method. Ngedon Gyamtso , however, is the more complete of the two in this regard. The aim is to help the teacher facilitate the student's exploration. And, as someone...

Re: Crying while chanting?

The lives of sentient beings are so brief. It is so hard to get a fortunate human body. To encounter the Dharma is so very rare. To encounter a realized teacher is even rarer. To accept the teaching is so so rare. To form deep devotion even more rare! Tears flow like rain sometimes, soaking the sock...

Re: First retreat

Goeka retreats are discussed in this thread http://www.dharmawheel.net/viewtopic.php?f=45&t=11618 when people are still in shock from starting to speak again, and from dealing with a lot of sensory input that the mind has gotten hyper sensitized to! But overall I found it to be a positive and p...

Re: First retreat

Best to do the retreat since you feel the time as ripened. These feelings of wanting to meditate or to go on retreats are very important. You set good karmic precedents every time you listen to that quiet signal and take action, it is kind of a snowball rolling down the hill! The opposite is true to...

Re: Avatamsaka Sutra

I would like to say something on ways of showing respect to the holy teachings of Buddha whether shastas, sutras, pali and so forth. 1. Never shelf such sacred objects where other books are above them. 2. Always touch to your head before reading in gratitude for the opportunity to encounter such tea...

Re: Does enlightenment really brings bliss?

My background is not in Buddhism and some the shallow knowledge that I know, enlightenment means the cessation of desires and attachment so I have a few questions. -How is someone's mind after enlightenment? -Is it bliss or joy that enlightenment brings or just silent peace? -Do they still have fee...

Re: Coincidences freaking me out

Dear Konchog, My opinion is what you are experiencing is really a blessing! As your practice grows more continuous and your mindfulness sharpens, your "field" widens and widens and these things enter the mind-stream. It is a ripening sign and not to be concerned! But remember, your origina...

Aspirations for Householder Practicers?

Everyone takes vows at some times. A very risky thing to do since the possibility of breaking them is always present. I have broken every single vow I ever took. That's why I am more or less a broken toy of a dharma practicer!! But since I have shamelessness, I want to suggest the following Aspirati...
