Re: im new to Buddhism and need help...

I would look into the different sutta and sutra collections in conjunction with all else, and you might want to keep the eyes peeled for a respectable practitioner of some sort to interact with offline.

PS Why are you looking for this information on New Age Gnostic and Buddhist sites? Why not ask at a Christian Orthodox site? That says something about my previous experience with christianity! I will look insha'allah...I just found a documentary on youtube called 'the Pilgrim's Way' with a great EO...

Breathing meditation in Greek Philokalia

A note in the English version of Philokalia (p.32 of 'Writings from the Philokalia on Prayer of the Heart') states that the russian contains only an "abreviated paraphrase because the original [Greek] instruction applies to a method of breathing which is now expounded differently." Anyone have a cop...

Common Ground between Islam and Buddhism

'Common Ground between Islam and Buddhism' by Rezah shah-Kazemi. I just found a free PDF of this book online and wondered if anyone has read it or heard if any school of buddhism is well represented by the author. The good muslim teachers of my local masjid could use a source of buddhist information...

In my city, the engaged buddhists are creating an enlightened society by bypassing all that enlightening oneself first silliness. The idea of enlightening oneself before trying to help out in society is interesting to me in that I'm not sure where the idea came from... Porkchop, . My commen...

CDs yes bye bye. Such an easy place to hide.
I also got rid of a pile of those will-get-to-them-again-one-day books. Hard to do, have not missed them at all. Kept the sutras.
