Re: Master Jin Bodhi & his method?

From my sources say his Bodhi Citta organisation is a cult. Their free glossy magazine shows signs of it too.

Re: What do people do with all the khadars/khatas they get?

Are you never going to visit a Lama again? I probably would, but not any time soon. I just not feel much for cultural gift exchange. As I Chinese I also don't feel much for exchanging oranges during Chinese New Year. But for oranges at least I can just eat them. :-) Anyway, I think I better stop as...

ok, but what if a person (like me) is not into this ritual, or have anyone suitable to give to. Can he just throw them away?

Thanks for the answers. With all those answers on passing it around, it sounds like something that people don't want!

What do people do with all the khadars/khatas they get?

Not sure if this is the right place to ask this:
It's in the Tibetan custom to greet people with khadars/khatas. Surely this leads to an accumulation. So, what do the receives do with all of them?

Re: The Tsem Tulku thread.

I hope someone from Kechara will post and clear this up. I think likely none would. In the past, we could expect a massive defense streak, perhaps in respond to a standing order. It does seem like they keep a watch on anything negative about them. And I'm sure they are following this. "They" not as...

Re: The Tsem Tulku thread.

Is there no official statement of the monastery in India where he studied and supposedly got his title, teaching permission etc from? If he is giving tantric empowerment it's surely possible to verify if he is qualified. A committee member of Vajrayana Buddhist Council of Malaysia (http://www.vbcm....

Re: The Tsem Tulku thread.

Regarding controversial teachers: while gossip is not welcome here, it is also good to not inhibit or repress the reporting of important developments that can further illuminate to past, present, or potential students of such a teacher that perhaps they should seek refuge in more authentic places. ...

Re: The Tsem Tulku thread.

... the thread... seems to be just a playground for fun at the expense of others which is not the point of this thread or forum. Fully agree. Let's be civil here. Besides, ridiculing followers (cult or not) aren't helpful at all. Instead, it's likely to trigger them to cling more strongly to the gr...

Re: The Tsem Tulku thread.

Can't someone ask HH Dalai Lama's office about this? To be honest, given Tsem Tulku's massive web presence, I'm surprised no one has already. If I wanted to check the reliability of a Gelug lama, they'd be the first people I'd ask. I sent them an email years back, when a very similar thread dialogu...

Re: Ethics in the Teacher-Student Relationship

It's painful to hear of situations like your friend was in. Holding someone to ransom over threats of harm to their family - I can understand why it's so hard to leave. I wish all the best for your friend's recovery  She'll take some time. I used to think that such people are just being stup...

Re: Ethics in the Teacher-Student Relationship

I can imagine the damage caused could make it very difficult to maintain conviction in the Dharma, not to mention the guts it may take in the first place to actually extricate oneself from an unethical teacher. It can be quite difficult. Often, the teacher already has psychological control over the...
