Re: Barefoot walking 👣

Almsround Pindapata is barefoot Yes, that is where I saw it. I don't remember though, maybe you know, is it required for pindapata? Or is it an extra - sort of voluntary ascetic practice? Yes it's required I used to walk long distances over gravelly roads in Chonburi province for almsround some of ...

Re: Barefoot walking 👣

Do you feel walking barefoot is facilitating meditation? If so, then great. I find I am compelled to walk slowly and carefully. If I don't, I just get hurt. The sensations are intense at times and range from pleasant to unpleasant. The more you can be simply open to the range of sensations, the les...

Barefoot walking 👣

For a few months I have been doing barefoot walking. I try to do several hours a week. I really enjoy it, despite it sometimes hurting on gravel surfaces 😀 In some parts of the world we see spiritual practitioners and people in general going about barefoot... I wonder if there are any particular Bud...

Help... tea story

Hello, could somebody please help me. I read a Buddhist story once and I can't remember it properly or where I read it. The story goes something like, a man goes to see a master and the master gives him a sip of tea... Just as he sips he finds himself by a lake and spends many years there.. he finds...

Re: Bullworker and isometrics.

A minute is a basic interval, each repeat of that is a rep. Reps until time to move on to something else. Facing up, I find a low couch or similar, rest my shoulders on it and hold the body up with heels. They both sound like pretty good exercises. I'm guessing if you do it without moving then you ...

How long do you plank for?
How do you do them facing up?

Re: Bullworker and isometrics.

Another new gadget I've been using, and I like is called the Isoflo. It can be used isometrically or with movement. I find it is good for the shoulders and back. I can get a stiff neck and shoulders and I found this really helped to loosen them up.

Bullworker and isometrics.

I've been using an old style piece of exercise equipment called a Bullworker. I use it for isometric exercise. It does seem to work and tone me up with not a great deal of time or effort. Isometric exercises are also supposed to help with elevated blood pressure, so that is good for me too as I get ...

Re: Contemplation

Literally everyone who practices the vajrayana does this - or at least, they should be as it's step 1 of most curricula, outer preliminaries. True, like contemplating the four thoughts of the Ngondro... ... but that is part of a formal practice, I'm thinking about using contemplation more generally...

Contemplation

Hi, I was talking with my teacher about an issue that I have with overeating. He said to contemplate the effects and consequences of what I eat. Think about what I really wanted. He said this was more important than simply trying to follow a rule because ego gets in the way, ego doesn't like to be t...

Re: Buddhism, and theistic religions.

Another little book that I picked up a few years ago was: The Four Buddhist Books In Mahayana. Translated by Upasika Chihmann. It is a lovely book with a very endearing and sincere testimony by Miss P. C. Lee (the translator). This book also talks about chanting Amitabha. There seems to be a few dif...
