Re: Continuing to Meditate after experiencing the Eternal Now

Hello everyone, My name is Jamie and I have been practicing zazen for 2 years now, it's a real pleasure to be a part of the group. I have been struggling to find some clarity on the matter of continuing to meditate or not after there was a huge explosion of experiencing that the past and future do ...

Well that it explains it then... 6 syllable or 100 syllable mantra? the sadhana is originally for 6 syllable mantra and refers to this mantra as the one of which the 400,000 can be completed with such and such benefits. there is also a section for the 100 syllable but my understanding is that it wa...

Re: Like a dream or a kind of dream?

IMO it is pointing to the nature of reality being LIKE the nature of a dream. LIKE an illusion. LIKE a mirage. Etc. It is not that this either is or isnt this or that - it's more that the use of the systemic designation of fabrications proliferated by the deluded mind as various worldviews/understan...

Re: Vajrayana. It’s Simple.

While looking for a teacher, or while waiting for conditions to make that search possible, there are still riches in the Vajrayana tradition that can benefit everyone: * Shantideva's Guide to the Bodhisattva Way of Life * teachings on rousing bodhicitta in everyday life * lamrim, a clear presentati...

Re: Can schizophrenics make progress to enlightenment through meditation?

Yeah, we're in agreement for the most part. I emphasized receiving proper instruction, guidance and supervision in my first post. Its impossible to say that the merit will outweigh the dangers since we don't know what states and actions will follow if they have challenging experiences. People have ...

Re: Can schizophrenics make progress to enlightenment through meditation?

the question is whether someone with schizophrenia can make progress to enlightenment through meditation. The answer is unequivocally YES. If someone has PTSD or depression and meditation causes them to be aware of their thoughts and they follow a thought chain into some kind of extremely delusional...

Re: Can schizophrenics make progress to enlightenment through meditation?

nope, this really isn't the case. not all delusions are equal in terms of how they manifest nor are all meditation instructions equal in how they influence the body and mind . Even people with no history of mental imbalances can find themselves worse off if they meditate too intensely, incorrectly ...

As long as theyre not completely gone into a totally different reality where there is no way for them to receive transmission, I would think it's kind of irrelevant to the path :) edit: meditation is meditation. either you're aware of it or you're not. meditation for a schizophrenic is the same as ...

what if these 'questionable' teachers really are sacrificing all their worldly renown and so on in order to greatly benefit those who have various degrees of pure vision? But they're not. This is a very important point. When they're caught, they go into long apologias or self-justifications. They a...

Re: Diana Mukpo’s potent letter re: Shambhala

is a Tantric magician with some minor powers and accomplishments worthy of such veneration if his character is still arrogant, devious, manipulative, insecure and greedy? In an age of charlatans isn't taming one's character the real siddhi? Even if you accomplish Shamatha you can do amazing things....

Re: Empowerments are for life?

that's true. Firstly I was just making a point that HHKJP Vajrasattva can be done without an empowerment or lung or tri and is supposed to be shared with everyone as such - so therefore it is actually the case that nobody needs a vajrasattva empowerment to practice vajrasattva anymore since anyone ...

Re: Empowerments are for life?

No, it doesnt. It states that the text can be practiced "without empowerment". The only thing that suggests is that one can practice this particular sadhana without the empowerment associated with it. It in no way suggests that Vajrasattva doesnt require transmission. the colophon in my veraion s...

Re: Empowerments are for life?

That's one example. The other aspect to consider in terms of Khenpo Jigphun's Vajrasattva is that there is not need to receive the lung for the sadhana due to the prevalence and of the transmission of Vajrasattva in general in Tibet. The assumption is that one has already at least received the lung...

Re: Empowerments are for life?

Vajrasattva most certainly requires transmission. At the very least one needs the reading transmission of the 100 syllable mantra. This transmission is essential for all Vajrayana practitioners in general but has special emphasis in the Nyingma transmission. no. hh jigme phuntsok has a vajrasattva ...

Re: Empowerments are for life?

@TrimePema: I received Dzogchen transmission from my lama and guarded that practice like my life depended on it, since I value my lama and what he gave me. I have strong guru yoga with him. I have not met with him in the last number of years but soon this year will meet with him again. I have had s...

Re: Empowerments are for life?

Its okay. It would be good to take the same empowerment or different one to purify samayas, or to recite regularly some prayer like The King of Aspiration Prayers , or do Vajrasattva if you have the transmission. Anyway if you want to continue, then go for it definetly. There is nothing lacking. An...

Re: Empowerments are for life?

I have a question that I have been wondering about. After receiving an empowerment in the Nyingma, is it considered that you have it for the rest of your life even if you drop the practice for a number of years and then later on you decide you want to do it again? So for example, say, an empowermen...
