Re: which pure land do you seek?

Many do Fragrant herbs, but how many succeed? That's why I vow to be born in Amitabha's Western Pure Land. Last Legend, is Medicine Buddha's Lapiz Lazuli Pure Land non-retrogressive? I know Tushita heaven isn't, which is a big consideration. I don't want to return to this Saha world! :namaste: Rory...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

The history of how Tantra came to Tibet by a Tibetan just isn't so. Buddha never taught Tantra. He never had secret teachings. Trash it? Who me? I think that Tantra has trashed the good name of Buddha. This is like a different lineage in Christianity starting centuries after Christ's dead, and tryin...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

when you go to a website on kalachakra and the lineage i was in and see that they talk about seminal retention in the empowerments, there is nothing else to talk about. put it together with what i read in the book, it is easy to even accept the trimondis. i do not believe that buddha ever taught the...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

Yes, that is what I am asked to believe, but then I found that you can buy The Commentary of the Kalachakra Tantra at Amazon by a Tibetan monk and teacher, a forbidden book that goes into details of the empowerments, and they are certainly sexual. No way around it, you are asked to visualize fondlin...

Re: am i insane?

I've chosen to post here rather on the dhamma site as, well, it seems more relevant here. I'm a theravada buddhist, we don't really recognise any other traditions texts or beliefs. I did try to follow the pureland tradition but theravada is in my heart and I'm happy with that. But strangely Kwan Yi...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

Actually according to Highest Yoga Tantra .. You do need sex to reach enlightenment, .. but that is another discussion.. If you don't like the idea of sex as practice and want to practice Vajrayana your best bet is with the Gelukpa sect as they, in general, follow the example of Je Tsongkhapa who m...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

There is a lot of fear in coming forward, especially for women. Always has been always will be. Women are not believed, and if they are believed, they are blamed for seducing their teacher, and either way they are looked down upon. I saw this happening in other groups that I was in, and the women ar...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

Here is another interpretation: Wayman, Alex, "Male, Female and Androgyne per Buddhist Tantra: Jacob Boehme and the Greek and Taoist Mysteries", in: Tantric and Taoist Studies in Honour of R.A. Stein, Brussels 1983. How does the yogi find a real, human mudra? Normally, she is delivered by his pupil....

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

Maybe; maybe not. But a person can get a few of the books it references and check them out: Here are some disturbing parts of the book: The “modern” tantric already mentioned, Lama Gedün Chöpel, explicitly warns that children can become injured during the sexual act: “Forcingly doing it with a young...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

Tsongkhapa himself wrote that without using a partner, complete liberation was impossible. That of course is his opinion. I believe that pranayama without the consort works as you seem to have also stated. Here is the line on the writers of the shadow book: Victor and Victoria Trimondi are pen name...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

The person who wrote the book above has no insight in Vajrayāna. He is coming from the Zen tradition. This is fine, but there it is not appropriate to apply his point of view to Vajrayāna. N The persons who wrote the book were students of the Dalai Lama and published his texts and then began readin...

Re: What should you do when you don't have a Zen teacher yet?

Personally, I don't think anyone should be discouraged from learning on their own. There are groups where the they teach you meditation and that is it. You are on your own as far as reading goes. Some teachers don't have time and so their students answer questions. How many people get to ask Thich N...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

My feeling about lamas and other gurus is that I think they could be married and still be a lama. It is the secrecy that I don't like because it harms the sangha.

If you don't like the idea of sex as practice and want to practice Vajrayana your best bet is with the Gelukpa sect as they, in general, follow the example of Je Tsongkhapa who maintained pure monastic vows, thus he didn't use a consort, and consequently he was said to have achieved enlightenment i...

Re: What is a tantric teaching in Buddhism?

I understand things better now, and so I am not leaving. My teacher doesn't practice it as such. I also learned from a reliable source, an atheist Buddhist, that the Trimondi's book is not to be taken seriously, and I wish the OP to know this. I do not have weird protestant morality. Just because I ...
