Re: "Eternal" Buddha?
the Tathagata (a perfectly enlightened being) exists after death. The Tathagata does not exist after death. The Tathagata both exists and does not exist after death. The Tathagata neither exists nor does not exist after death. Right : i exist after death. i does not exist after death. I both exist ...

Re: International Order of Buddhist Ministers
I honestly wouldnt trust any organization outside of ones own authorized lineage masters, whatever their lineage be. Ah, too much attachment... too much. When people are working with themselves to better their lives and the lives of others, I would think any Buddhist would embrace that and applaud....

Re: Who are the best teachers of non-duality?
Would you elaborate on both of those statements what the differences are?thigle wrote:The (neo-)advaita concept (and concrete meditation experience) called "non-duality" has nothing to do with buddhism. And for Dzogchenpas: "Yermed" isn't "non-duality".

Re: Should one nurture sadness?
I don't think there is much value in sadness. It doesn't seem to help other people. The secret for overcoming depression is to view ordinary life as being totally amazing. Precious human life is so absolutely stunning - so amazingly rare - really there is no necessity to find other meaning outside ...

Re: Buddhist perspective on Book of Revelation
Will try to make an attempt at putting a Madhyamaka hat on: If something is the beginning and the end, then as begin and end relate to relative time of something, then there are two options, either its something that at one point is the beginning, and later the end, in which case it has changed. If ...

Re: Should Buddhists even care about "engaging" social polit
So from a purely Buddhist point of view - at what point compassion becomes activism and drifts away from the path by becoming too onesided? (meaning neglecting wisdom) I think it needs to be calculated. If you spend yourself trying to make the world a better place without being realistic about your...

Re: Should Buddhists even care about "engaging" social polit
However, this raises an ethical question for Buddhists. If rule of law requires the application of high levels of violence (and in some countries it is required) and perhaps even a secret police to monitor government officials and employees, then how far will you as a Buddhist support those measure...

Re: Self-Arising as yidam vs. being inseparable with the gur
Do you see yourself as Karmapa in postmeditation ... Is inseparable from the Guru the same as "being" the Guru? Chris As asunthatneversets pointed out regarding the meaning of Guru, its not really about a specific "person". As for if it is the same as in Yidam generation-stage, ...

Re: Dzogchen in India post 8CE
On a side track regarding shri simha, does anyone have comments on this statement from "http://www.kamakotimandali.com/blog/index.php?p=999&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1" .. " Tucci’s argument is supported by Longchenpa’s claim that Srisimha, one of the earliest figures of the ...

Re: Dzogchen in India post 8CE
It is very messy. One must also keep in mind that during the rebirth of Buddhism in Tibet (beginning 10th century), establishment of pedigrees going back to India was considered key in legitimating teachings -- some extremists even said that anything without such an Indian pedigree was not real Bud...

Re: Dzogchen in India post 8CE
So.. a quick review on the relevant chapters on this book - the author seems to suggest two things, if I understood his intentions: - Even though it seems reliable that the Semde teachings arrived in Tibet in the first transmission, the later texts were "produced" in Tibet, so no Indian so...

Dzogchen in India post 8CE
Hello All! After recently reading some texts on the history of the late indian buddhism, and some bios, a question arose in my mind. I have tried to research a little more, but so far not much luck in finding any sort of information. First of all - I dont want to start any polemics, my intentions ar...
