Re: My Open Message to Gyatrul Rinpoche
I would not say necessarily that your sincere (your words) and open letter stinks, however if that was your intent this would have ended there. I would personally be ashamed to post an open letter to a respected teacher and then pile all the BS on top of my letter. That is about as clear as I can b...

Re: Ngondro Challenges
At some level we must just have faith that the Path will benefit all beings and that our practice makes a difference. On other levels I believe (see the faith thing?) that it becomes quite clear and evident that practice does benefit all beings. This is due to the inextricable connections between al...

Just my opinion.

Re: My Open Message to Gyatrul Rinpoche
Twitter, and even this site, seem to be odd formats for this strange conflict. I am turned off more and more to "social" networks as a means of communication. Perhaps because of the inherent anonymity that some use to disguise their identities and thus avoid responsibility for their action...

Re: Death at Tibetan Buddhist meditation retreat in Arizona
What a sad sad affair for all sentient beings.
How was it possible for this group to become so misguided?
This is not Buddhism as I have come to understand.
Perhaps good may arise from this through the guidance of proper lineage teachers.

Re: Buddhism and Anger
You may wish to try the practice of Tonglen or Taking and Giving. Tonglen is often considered a practice for others however it can be used for ones self. Picture that you are breathing IN all your anger. That should be easy! Then breath OUT a feeling of bright and light joy and compassion. ...

Re: Ground of Being
The Buddha suggested that some questions are not worth asking. Personally, I think certain Buddhists tend to use this to stop people from asking questions that they themselves cannot provide an answer. To me, it is an indirect way of telling you to stop using your intellect, put your brain aside, j...

Re: Ground of Being
The Buddha suggested that some questions are not worth asking. Excerpts from: Aggi-Vacchagotta Sutta I have heard that on one occasion the Blessed One was staying in Savatthi, at Jeta's Grove, Anathapindika's monastery. Then the wanderer Vacchagotta went to the Blessed One and, on arrival, exchanged...

Re: Misunderstanding emptiness
Well what is there to change? Since the examination i proposed showed colors are vision, and vision is consciousness, and consciousness is empty. That in-and-of-itself negates the changing display of color. But to go further into it, the notion of change must be judged from a reference point of eit...

Re: Misunderstanding emptiness
Here is a quote from Kutthi Sutta: The Leper
"Whatever is subject to origination is all subject to cessation."
This may be a hint of the meaning of emptiness.

Re: Hell in Tibetan Buddhism
I have a comment and a question. I am unable to beleive in the Christian type eternal hell since there is nothing that one could do to deserve eternal hell. But a temporary hell, even if it lasted for many ages, is perhaps more believable. Could a Bodhisattva be reborn in hell to alleviate the suffe...

Re: Understanding emptiness
I first heard it in a teaching by the Dalai Lama. When I heard it the first time I thought it was very useful to know but didn't rememeber all of it until I listened to the teaching again. HH Dalai Lama said it was Nagarjuna's response to the Buddhist realists (lower schools of Buddhist thought) wh...

Re: what is the cause of Avidyā(ignorance)?
Here is a line from the Paticca-samuppada-vibhanga Sutta
"And what is ignorance? Not knowing stress, not knowing the origination of stress, not knowing the cessation of stress, not knowing the way of practice leading to the cessation of stress: This is called ignorance.

Re: Reasons for Conventional Reality
It seems to me we are missing the baby in a dirty tub of bathwater. The baby is there but we are not seeing it due to the clouded perceptions of conventional existence. The Buddhas Noble Eightfold Path holds the answers to the question. We must view conventional reality with ethical, moral, and uncl...

How could Tara be considered to be a chore even if one billion devotions are given?
You may even just call out her name to receive great benefit.
