Re: Very sad news

No one can put obstacles in front of new Buddhists (are there any in truth?), including a bad teacher. If we make a connection with a bad teacher, that is on us. That is our karma. We learn from that experience and move on. We all have lived many lifetimes, and have done many worse things in our pa...

Re: Very sad news

When did this happen? I think he is referring to an incident described in "Blazing Splendor" but, having just read through it, it seems that CR was questioning whether TUR had the lineage for the empowerments he was offering to DR at that time. Anyway, not to belabor the point, here we ar...

Re: 'Zero-Calorie' Sweeteners Aren't Actually Calorie-Free?

Splenda contains sucralose and Equal contains aspartame and acesulfame K. It's not all about calories. If you really can't do without sugar try Stevia or Erythritol. I've heard that stevia is too bitter tasting. Is Erythritol sold in stores? I only bought it once so far (almost a year ago and I hav...

Re: Very sad news

IDK... There's a story how Chatral Rinpoche met Tulku Urgyen and thought him to be fake until Dudjom Rinpoche intervened. When did this happen? I think he is referring to an incident described in "Blazing Splendor" but, having just read through it, it seems that CR was questioning...

Re: Very sad news

Well, I remember when I first read this statement I took note because it is the only such statement about SR that I have seen. As far as whether one person can recognize realization in another I think probably some can, especially in a situation where you have a guru like NK evaluating the progress...

Re: Very sad news

If he had realization then he would have acted differently. I am not trying to defend the notion that SR has realization but it is interesting to note the following passage from http://all-otr.org/public-talks/1-following-the-dzogchen-path : ... Sogyal Rinpoche’s level of practice is extremely high...

Re: Very sad news

One thing to bear in mind is that Sogyal has had a huge hand in introducing thousands of western students to luminaries like Dilgo Khyentse and so on, whom they otherwise may have never met or would have had great difficulty receiving teachings from. Yeah, I myself am among those. But while I'm gra...

Re: Growing in the religion and identifying redflags

@Pero Ive read a few other general books like the Dhammapada and a few historical ones. What I was looking for is a good book of practices/instruction that I can use in between the classes I take at my local Dzogchen Center which only meets once a month Ah.. The thing is in order to really practice...

Re: Growing in the religion and identifying redflags

To get a good grounding – and without a proper grounding, the simplicity and clarity of dzogchen can easily turn out to be wasted – I suggest you get hold of Words of My Perfect Teacher by Patrul Rinpoche. You can easily get it online, or any Tibetan-oriented dharma bookstall worth its salt will pr...

Song of the Vajra is a mantra and requires lung. But Rinpoche gives it every retreat.

Not tryna argue or anything but Dzogchen really is an independent yana though. Longchenpa: In this regard, let me define precisely a secret key point specific to the heart drop approach. When appearances manifest, when thoughts arise, or at any other time, you recognize bare awareness [rig pa] in a...

Re: "highest practices" and anti-intellectualism

If you rest in the natural state, it is Dzogchen. If you do that during a sadhana or a prayer or while picking apples or going to the toilet it is all the same genuine Dzogchen practice. Yeah and this is precisely why I don't understand what you guys are arguing about. Well, it's something to do, a...

Re: "highest practices" and anti-intellectualism

It's not just you mate. I also think that those making these platitudes should go ask their teachers why they are practicing and teaching Yoga practices, given how much of a god-awful obstacle they are to the realisation of Dzogchen and then come back and report to us what their teacher answered. I...
