Re: Learning Dzogchen online

How strange. One doesn't even have to have taken refuge to take an empowerment, since refuge is given in the course of the empowerment. Were those registrations for Nyingma empowerments? I can't remember for sure now (this was years back) but I don't think they were Nyingma. I've also seen some emp...

I think on the first day Rinpoche said he will give the lung for Calling The Lama From Afar, has he already given it and I missed it? I checked the part I know 100% sure that I missed and it doesn't seem like he did during that time.
He didn't give it yet as far as i know.
Thanks.

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

I'm not totally sure everyone agrees with that. I personally do, but at the first teaching I ever attended I had a talk with one of the students of the center where the teaching was and she was adamant you need to go through the formal ritual to have taken refuge. She was a Gelug student. I...

Re: Learning Dzogchen online

Since refuge is from the shravakayana, it does not require transmission, or even a formal ceremony. As soon as you give birth to it in your mindstream, it counts. Doing a formal ceremony with a master in person is a nice auspicious circumstance, but doesn't make one's refuge more legitimate than wh...

Re: Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

I'm registered for the event and have been following along. Have they been streaming the afternoon sessions by Lama Tenzin Sangpo and Dr. Thomas? I never seem to catch them as a live stream but they're up there as teaching recordings at the end of the day. Curious if I'm somehow missing the stream ...

Re: Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

You should email them with your situation. I'm sure you'll be allowed to register anyway. Only the first 3 days are going to be streamed to those who aren't registered. I can take only first 2 days. Did he give lung already? I missed ending today. He gave 2 lungs but not for the main text. Just ema...

Re: The Dangers of Diluted Buddhism

Quite an interesting article from Lama Jampa Thaye. What do you think about his warning? https://tricycle.org/trikedaily/diluted-buddhism/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=fb Isn't he saying beware of false Buddhism without saying what true Buddhism is? Although I see this is an excerpt, perhaps it wou...

Re: Chokyi Nyima Rinpoche

All registrants are required to take the teachings in sequential order, starting from the beginning of the seminar. Is recordings enough? The first 3 days will be live-streamed and free, via Facebook and simultaneously on DharmaSun.org. They might live-stream the whole seminar. I would contact them...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I don't think it is shaming, if someone thinks there is a problem it is good to say it rather than letting others continue doing something that may be wrong. The problem is that in such cases it is not very clear how much or what kind of information is ok. It's not that difficult: Information from ...

Re: When the villagers gave up hunting...

In what way does it make perfect sense to you to take a vow to stop killing and then continue killing? ... I have no idea about the topic but regarding the above it seems to me it is not so difficult to take a vow in a kind of spur of the moment thing and then not follow through, so it wouldn't be ...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Doing ganapuja completely alone is no good. If done with webcast then you ofc prepare separate plate for three roots also a glass. But alone it is better to do medium thun. According to Rinpoche, while it is ideal to do it collectively, it can be done by oneself. Really? Yes. Page 194 of the Teachi...

You mean if you do not remember your dreams, or do you mean being unaware that in a dream you are dreaming?
The latter.
You are still conscious.
I'm sorry but I don't understand.

When you dream, you are conscious, but what you are experiencing is the activation of traces.
But if I don't know I am dreaming, how can you say that I am conscious?

... The model used, if one can call it a model, is clarity vs. cloudiness, distracted vs. undistracted. Re: Psychoanalysis

Thanks! In Buddhadharma, there is nowhere any discussion of an unconscious mind which performs functions below the level of awareness. This is a modern idea from modern psychology. It comes originally from the 189th century German philosopher Schiller, was taken up by the poet Coleridge, and placed...
