Re: If Vajrayana is superior to Hinayana, how come no stories of Dipa Ma-like siddhis?

Yes, I understood. I'm just saying that it's an interesting siddhi. It could resolve all sorts of questions, e.g. what language(s) did the Buddha teach in? I'm not sure if that would work. There've been accounts of other masters who can remember past lives when they were monastics during Sakyamuni'...

It's clearly some faster-than-light mechanism...
Buddha's don't contact you. Your own mind is the Buddha.

Dzogchen, 100%. Just after empowerment? before or later? Is not Rainbow body the stage of full enlightement? Forgive my ignorance... No problem. There are 21 capacities of Dzogchen practitioners divided into best, medium and average. The best achieve buddhahood in this life. The next 19 achieve bud...

Re: Buddhahood in three incalculable eons an improbable venture.

If the way seems perilous, it is. You're right to consider not only how easy it is to fall out of practice, but the time involved. Ten years from now is unfathomable, let alone several lifetimes. So that is why some practitioners aspire for rebirth in realms like Amitabha's Pure Land, which are con...

Yeah, coz all the Vajrayana practitioners I know are at the absolute tipping point that, with the slightest hint of a Dharma breeze (a Buddha passing gas, for example), they will be pushed into Buddhahood. Any minute now!

Re: Buddhahood in three incalculable eons an improbable venture.

I have heard it said again and again that it takes three incalculable eons in standard Mahayana to reach Budhahood. If this is the case what are the chances in all practicality of one coming into contact with and practicing the dharma lifetime and lifetime after lifetime for three incalculable eons....

Re: Why is it okay for Mahayana Buddhists to be actors?

Maybe there is a general hesitation to interfere in lay peoples superficial way of life? The Mahayana teachings focus on inner states of mind mainly, as far as I understand. The advices for right behavior are valid for the ten unwholesome deeds, not killing, no stealing, no lying, no harsh speech e...

Hello everyone. I'm new to this forum; it seems like a great resource and I look forward to getting to know the community. I'm not exactly new to Buddhism, but I've only recently become a Buddhist, as opposed to merely a sympathizer. I wanted to ask the community why they chose Buddhism over, say, ...

Wouldn't one have to do a lot of dullness development in Samatha to have a rebirth as an animal?I thought it was quite common for meditators to fall into dullness sometimes with long sessions of sitting practice, seems kind of a...
