Re: two buddhist sanskrit stotram

I cannot be much help, except to say that kalyana does not mean friend, but instead it means auspicious, or good. The confusion is probably because you have heard of kalyana mitra, here mitra means friend, and the expression refers to a good, or dharmic friend. I can see that the second chant, in it...

OP, I pray for your suffering to cease and for you to quickly achieve liberation. Did you ever thank Mahakala for the first time? Do you keep a shrine? Did you pick up money from the ground recently? These things are really best dealt with by a professional I wish you the best 唵嘛呢叭咪吽 Could you clari...

Re: When does counting mantras count?

But don't confuse that with formal deity practice. Thank you for making the distinction between the two uses of mantras explicit, it does seem that we've been talking about two different practices throughout this thread. It is just a shame to use "serious" to describe one of them - and by implicati...

Re: Innovative ways of mantra counting

Any technique or method to count mantra anytime, anywhere easily without attracting unnecessary attention Well, this is quite geeky but... I've written a small App using the MIT App Inventor. It's very simple - there is a +1 and a -1 button, and a button to post the current count onto a spreadsheet...

Re: When does counting mantras count?

I've just come back from Nepal, and I saw so, so many Nepalese and Tibetans repeating and counting their mantras in public and displaying their malas. Lay people, monastics, and people with shawls and clothes denoting a tantric connection. I would be surprised if all these people are misguided about...

Re: Questions from a newbie on Tibetan Buddhism

There are several online programs which attempt to give a gradual and complete introduction to Tibetan Buddhism and which facilitate a connection with a comunity - these may suit you. I did a few units on the course from the FPMT, it is all very well thought out. I am currently following the Tara Tr...

By any chance does someone have the image used in the cover of the Shitro book, or images of the wrathful, joyful and peaceful manifestations? :? I found it here: https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com/564x/f2/0e/34/f20e3407ead58cbeecd98cc6de3fd0be.jpg . I am really loving these teachings. Looking fo...

Re: Tibetan Sound of Healing Web Teaching TWR in July

Ah, I see that it is not the Sound of Healing one that is free but the Healing from the Source workshop. I got confused with the title of the thread :).

The URL is actually http://www.glidewing.com/twr/healing_fr ... study.html.

Are you sure it is free? The registration page says $295.

I went to a talk by Rinpoche a few months back and it was very interesting. I am sure it will be a great workshop.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

AFAIK it is mostly used for relaxation and practice of being present and integrating the movement. Rinpoche often quotes Milarepa who said that every movement is yantra or sth like that. :) Indeed, that is why I included the word "direct" :). Incorporating movement is great, especially after those ...

What about finding a middle way? Being close friends first and being open to a natural progression?

Does the Khaita also have a direct effect (like the breathing and yoga) on the channels and winds? Or it is primarily a social activity?

Many thanks for the replies. Ayu, I was in fact at a teaching by Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo today and she talked a bit about this issue of self-confidence. But I would say my hesitation is not a lack of confidence in practice but just that... there are so many types of practice! and so little time in the...

I am going to piggy-back on this thread to ask for some naive advice: This time I have the opportunity to attend the Kalachakra initiation in January in Bodhgaya, with some sacrifice. The Kalachakra initiation is something which I have had in the back of my mind for many years, but if I am perfectly...

Favicon, please?

Maybe I am the only reader of this forum with about 10 tabs open on my browser; it sometimes gets difficult to find the DharmaWheel tab amongst the other ones. I wonder if the gurus here could include a Favicon - the little icon that shows up on the tab. Most big websites have that, and it makes it ...
