Re: What are you doing about the coronavirus?

https://reut.rs/3duhsrs This is the future. Tech will rule economically. They are ready for this... https://reut.rs/3dsQfW2 How long will it take for social distancing to become permanent? If that happens how long before tech is designed to run tech fab and have it run from a laptop? Well, I think ...

Re: Alan Watts

Who can know if he liberated himself? Impossible to know. But he could teach it. So he got it. His perceptions of being in dharma without sitting highlight the importance of self awareness in the rough grind of daily life which is easily forgotten for those gaining supreme insights on a cushion.

He was never able to free himself. While I always enjoyed reading his books and found them useful (he also had a tv series on San Francisco public television which one can watch on YouTube. It’s great, and also really silly) I think he couldn’t get past observing Buddhism (and Taoism too) as an out...

Re: What are you doing about the coronavirus?

Everything is going virtual, which is great for everyone who does not work with their hands, like jobs that mainly do stuff on software. Whereas laborers and professionals who require in-person interactions like doctors. I imagine the latter will invest heavily in robots or medical drones. The forme...

Re: Which VPN do you use and why?

Because of the number of restrictions happening recently about which pages you can visit and why, I am considering a VPN program to help me navigate around things since I am an adult and capable of making decisions for myself. Now there are plenty of them (VPN) out there and each one blows it's own...

The situation is Latin America is quite terrifying. My expat friends I met living in hostels who are now spread around Latin America tell frightening tales and are all justifiably afraid.

What about the Calzone controversy? Where do we stand on that? Does your lineage fold or not fold?
Calzineggedon. Be happy you can find it on a menu. Be glad it isn't automatically made with green Olives and hardboiled eggs

buddhas played the "ran away" from their home's conditions, kingdom responsabilities, womans, kids, politicians, etc. we don't need to do that. that's the renounciation way. regarding the mahayana, vimalakirti's pov is that if one can actually recognize emptiness in normal life one do actually can ...

Re: Dukkha and pure mathematics.

I totally agree, that's exactly my problem with mathematics as is taught today, i.e., without the mystical side which by all evidence the Pythagoreans did emphasize. Perharps it was a peculiar development in a specific society and thereafter suited only to a peculiar type of personality. But it has...

Re: Rigpa and Alayavijnana

Are these the same thing? If so, Are there distinctions in the way alaya is described in Yogacara and rigpa in Dzogchen? If this has been discussed here already, reference would be appreciated. No, definitely not. The all-basis consciousness is a product of ma rig pa, ignorance, the opposite of rig...

Re: How do Buddhists get rid of ants and other pests and insects?

Mahayanists do their best to protect all life. Living in a malarial zone with dengue and zika, not sure the mosquitoes get to live. Ants can usually be lured away and flies chased out. Cockroaches, spiders, etc., picked up and moved out. If it is a big tarantula loud noises can scoot them out of the...

Re: Decreased interest in Tantric practice

Everything is interdependent. Tantra from a lineage is extremely rare and precious. Having a lama and a group is too. Once we look sideways at these things and scoff the die are cast and the inevitable loss has commenced. So stop that. And pray to the lamas from a far.

Nor me. It’s not as though we haven’t enough on our plates without piling them higher. My suspicion is that we are tempted to collect wangs when the honeymoon period wears off.. Or maybe you are taking your amazing good fortune for granted and when those wangs are not being given anywhere you can a...

Re: Decreased interest in Tantric practice

It’s an interesting phenomenon which I have observed over the years. You might be correct about what drives it. There seem to be several motivations. One is to make contact with a particular Lama and lineage, with 'holy being' possibly being in the mix. Another is to enable a person to perform a pr...
