Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

Doesn’t it occur to you that this is Kongtrul basically acceding to Sapan’s objections? From a few sentences before, on the same page: 'Concerning this, the dharma lord Sakya Panchen asserted: "Mahamudra is not designated in the tradition of the perfections. The pristine awareness of mahamudra only...

Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

I base thiis assumption on the fact you obviously do not know how gurus transmit this, Kagyu gurus. I spent years w one and he introduced my to many other kagyus, Karma Kagyu, Taklung Kagyu *(a holiness), MANY.... no one ever said mahamudra without guru yoga. No guru yoga in kagyu ever was without ...

Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

It still requires an empowerment. The so-called "descent of the gnosis vajra empowerment" discussed by Indrabhūti in the Jñānasiddhi. That is like Sakya Pandita's criticism of the Kagyupas, something that they rejected/refuted. 'Now the Venerable Mid-la did not teach the upaya-marga and the Mahamud...

Dzogchen teachings are like sutra mahamudra. Lectures do not do the trick.

Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

What you cannot seem to accept is this is taught through the Dohas which are the pith instruction lineage. And you cannot practice this witout a guru. There is no chance to do this by reading a book. What do you base that assumption on? The requirement of receiving the teachings of Mahamudra/Vajray...

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

What you are missing is this avoidance attitude is for monks. Further, it is for monks who are not working on completion stage. Not just for monks. 'When thoughts of sensual desire arise in him towards his own wife, and he comes under the influence of reactive emotions, then, seeing the foulness of...

Re: Jonang Kalachakra online empowerment July 24-27

I have PM'd you. But more broadly for the thread: if you don't know the lama and you just want the practice, this is not a good reason to take a HYT empowerment. You should study with him for a considerable time before committing. Then you can decide for yourself. Which no one does when taking HHDL...

Khampa saying according to her :rolling:
Unlikely, given the Tibetan aversion to “wrong orifices.”
Was that a tibetan thing or a monastic thing?
It is the fear of being reborn a hermaphrodite

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

This is true. There is this thing going on a lot in modern vajrayana. Folks just get empowerments. But what is meant to happen is an empowerment, full transmissions of all the sadhanas and full instructions on the practices. That way a person knows what they are doing and when to do it. Right. But ...

Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

So now you accept Drikung Kagyu? Essence Mahamudra is not a yana, it is based on Mahamudra Tilaka Tantra and others. It is tantric. If we take Gampopa's word on it, Mahamudra per se is neither sutra nor tantra, but beyond them. 'In his texts, Gampopa distinguishes three main paths. (1) The paramita...

Re: Jonang Kalachakra online empowerment July 24-27

One thing to keep in mind with Kalachakra is there are two empowerments. There is the outer empowerment and the secret empowerment. No way he can give the secret empowerment online. Why not? HHDL did so in Washington DC when he gave Kalacakra there the last ime. He gave the whole kit and kaboodle, ...

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

This Aryadeva thing is Gelukpa, Well, no. Khenpo Ngawang Palzang, Chatral's Rinpoche's guru, wrote an amazing commentary on this text. That is fine, but the point is the Geluk emphasize this attitude. And Nyingma do not emphasize Aryadeva. Does not matter that there is one commentary on it. The Nyi...

Re: Age of Mahayana Schools

...But Vajrayana also does not believe in the efficacy of renunciation (or more to the point: it does not consider it the most efficient manner to achieve liberation). That puts it directly at odds with the Sravakayana. From another thread: The offtime yogas of sleeping, waking, bathing, clothing, ...

I will only talk about tantra as the path of means. Just that he understands it is not everything just Buddhism. May my son soon address to a Lama. Maybe I need to find a short text to avoid becoming my son´s teacher. It is called "Introduction to Mahamudra, the Co-Emergent Unification," by L...

another point is that so called essence mahamudra is taught as an extention or an elaborated fourth empowerment whereby you are given the chance to make vipashyana your main practice, albeit you have done a ton of gnondro.

Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

What is important is there is a tantric path that is outside the bounds of the four initiations and goes a different direction, but still has preliminaries, has Guru yoga where body is a deity, has Vajrasattva and mandala offerings. Ok? is that clear enough?

Re: Sutra, Tantra, Mahamudra

Is it correct to say to my son: "There are three vehicles, Sutra, Tantra and Mahamudra"- withhout mentioning Dzogchen? There are Sutrayana and Vajrayana, and within Vajrayana there are the Path of Means (thabs lam) and the Path of Liberation (grol lam). It is the path of liberation where you find s...
