Re: Qualifications for Wrathful Activity

I will be relatively vague in this post, but I'm curious if there is a publicly available list of the qualifications for wrathful activity. I have heard, for example, that when it comes to 'forceful liberation' or what have you there are fairly stringent criteria that must be in place, something li...

Re: Dzogchen without deity yoga/two stages?

The key instruction coming out of Mr. Smith's clear letters is the path can be understood from incisive descriptions. Sounds like the teaching style of some Zhang Zhung Nyengyud lamas actually. Might be simply because I never saw it before at least from the retreats I attended, but they don't usual...

Re: Practicing dzogchen without tantric vows? Do i need them?

Actually there are samayas in Dzogchen. https://www.rigpawiki.org/index.php?title=Samaya /magnus Actually dzogchen transcends the 10 natures of tantra. The nature of the mind does, but not the mind. It’s important to make a distinction between these two. When we see the ten principles of tantra bei...

Re: Dzogchen without deity yoga/two stages?

The key instruction coming out of Mr. Smith's clear letters is the path can be understood from incisive descriptions. No where else will you ever catch some admission like that. So then, if you have those what are you going 'to do?' Gets pretty radically free from that moment, especially if you take...

Re: Dzogchen without deity yoga/two stages?

Some of those lineages you mention have manuals for, say, trekchod and onward which are presented as completely freestanding from two stages and could in theory be practiced as such. But I don't think anyone in those lineages would teach them that way... this is what i'm saying. i respect the way l...

Re: Dzogchen without deity yoga/two stages?

The Dzogchen Community founded by the late Chogyal Namkai Norbu Rinpoche does indeed use deity visualization and recitation of deity mantras. They are also strong in protector practices. Even their Short Tun (practice session text) has a brief section towards the end of deity yoga. Cultivation of r...

Re: Dzogchen without deity yoga/two stages?

thanks But generally, if you want mundane siddhis, then you need to practice some creation stage practice, like Tara, Kilaya, Amitayus, etc. depending on one needs. According to ChNN in The Crystal the siddhis, like five eyes, are included in the three primordial wisdoms. Tilopa's Ganga Mahamudra a...

Re: Non-attachment in Buddhism

Do what is good.

Leave what is evil.

Purify the mind.

This is the teaching of the Buddha

Not objectifying and lacking scheme or artífice might be better words for you.

Do what is wholesome and healthy and peaceful.

Re: Practicing dzogchen without tantric vows? Do i need them?

There are Dzogchen samayas like voidness, clarity etc. These relate to the nature of dzogchen and spontaneous presence which is the way to practice any sense of committment there.

Re: is the sense of space an illusion?

Hey again, so I recently finished reading ChNN's "The Crystal", and something i see alot in the book is the problem with "dualism." i see alot that basically, the mind has mistaken itself to be a "separate" entity &that it has a false sense of dualism. Now, this reminds me of when i took shrooms lo...

Re: Buddha or Coffee: Choose One

Tea is already Buddha Coffee is Muhammad. Wine is Moses (I was born in a Jewish family; even kids are allowed to partake for the rituals and almost every ritual includes some wine tasting or drinking). Kids partake in gentile families also. We just have to wait for the adults to pass out first.

Re: Buddha or Coffee: Choose One

When I was 20 I gave my coffee to Buddha: started a practice of early morning meditation, with cup of coffee. Still doing this over 20 years later, so no, I won't choose sides, I'm calling this the coalescence of two truths. I was waiting for the diplomat to choose both. I could have made a selecti...

Re: Dagpo Kagyu empowerments

The funny thing is they have not been giving actual first three empowerments since India. There are all symbolic. No actual consort being given. Most of this tantric polêmica is because of speculation upon incomplete information. Amazing it still goes on today. Tantra was meant to be a concrete phy...

Re: Dagpo Kagyu empowerments

You’re going to have to cite a specific kagyu instruction manual to define what you mean by “Tantric mahamudra” in kagyu. Citing secondary texts that define the thing they’re criticizing will only lead to confusion. Also if it’s a critique of what Gampopa specifically did, you’ll need a text of Gam...
