Re: Mahamudra and Dzogchen

No, this is just standard Vajrayāna hyperbole. Even if you practice this, there is no guarantee of rainbow body. Rainbow body depends on the practitioner, not the practice. I believe Khenpo Namdrol The notion comes from a line in the root text. The Hevajra tantra says, "Buddhist tīrthikas who do no...

Re: Mahamudra and Dzogchen

Even so, the basis of purification of Dzogchen is not the five aggregates. Anyone wants Rainbow body these days has to practice Guru Singhishwara. No, this is just standard Vajrayāna hyperbole. Re: Mahamudra and Dzogchen

Chetsun Nyinthig sadhana is not Dzogchen, it's anuyoga, specifically, employing devotion to the guru as the path. Then it becomes Dzogchen. Very pure lineage. First half of Sadhana is essentially tummo. As purification and accumulation

Re: Mahamudra and Dzogchen

One cannot practice Lamdre from a Dzogchen point of view. Why? The basis of purification is different. The basis of purification of Lamdre is the five aggregates. The basis of purification of Dzogchen is pristine consciousness. But so is Chetsun N Huh? First half of Sadhana is essentially tummo. As...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

...why do western buddhism followers almost always look so uptight and filled with so much self-concern meanwhile tibetans are almost always smiley and seem like not giving a slightest damn.... In many cases it's because appearances are just that, appearances. Just like charlatans can act like sain...

Re: Mahamudra and Dzogchen

I think this question is on point, but maybe it could be a new thread- there were a few different thread with similar titles, and I think a bunch of posts or even a thread got deleted? Idk If one held the view that mahamudra and dzogchen have the same basis and the same fruit, that just the paths a...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

The topic is loaded question. Like, why do you abuse your wife? There is room for a guru to make you feel bad, confuse you, impeach you... The thing is, Nathan, is that there is flaw in the way the narrative of guru devotion is being communicated, and that leads to serious abuse of students by puta...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

Lets start by not pretending that everything advanced in the name of Vajrayāna actually corresponds with Vajrayāna Dharma on any level. Lets also stop pretending, in the name of "samaya," that bestowing empowerments is a free pass to abuse students, sexually, financially, and emotionally. Caveat em...

Four Buddha Activities - How Accomplished?

It might pertinent to review how are the Four Buddha Activities: Pacification, enriching, magnetizing and wrathful actions are carried out, by Buddhas, by mantrins and by practitioners of Upadeshas, like Mahamudra, Tregchod and Thogal.

Re: Dream of being Hayagriva

That’s a good dream. Hayagriva is usually associated with higher level stuff. Most lineages have this. There’s a good Dudjom lineage for extremely wrathful black Hayagriva. Many others.

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

I see there’s no assuaging this change in society. Here’s what my meditation dawned on me. There should be a lineage with perfect samaya for a particularly swift method, one with a guaranteed Buddhahood. The preliminary practices should be a traditional tantra one with a commentary like Vimalamitra....

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

May the fat wallet lamas be the real deal. Sadly, this is generally not the case. Ok. I know Dodrupchen made sure a young Western born Tulku got the crap beat out of him often and the lama in charge of this teen berated him constantly and called him a failure often. At one point he said he was bein...

Re: Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo & Lama Tsultrim Allione: Shambhala's Sakyong Mipham

No, there is no finger pointing -- there is mere acknowledgement that we have a religious tradition which is in deep denial about harmful abuses which it allows to happen to children, women, and others. Do what to remedy? Lets start by not pretending that everything advanced in the name of Vajrayān...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

My point is that if you do not like the conversation, you are not required to participate. The Tibetan tradition is not perfect, it has problems, mostly having to do with abuse of power, money, sexism, and position, and exploiting the teachings to support worldly positions of power, to gain money, ...

Glad we cleared that up. I’m saying there’s too much finger pointing going on here. It’s enough to make this point. After a while the scale tips towards disparaging samaya holders. No, there is no finger pointing -- there is mere acknowledgement that we have a religious tradition which is in deep d...

Re: What's the point of abusive gurus?

Vajra gurus do not have the immunity of papal infallibility. If you do not like the heat... Apparently, you like the heat. Vajrakilaya tantras have some pointed things to say about this. My point is that if you do not like the conversation, you are not required to participate. The Tibetan tradition...
