Re: Surviving my wife’s PMS?

Do you have a shed in your backyard. If not, build one. If you can afford it connect power and water to this shed, see if you can't get a second hand t.v. and a good chair for yourself, you're going to be spending a lot of time in this shed. Get a project or two to work on down there, it's easier t...

Re: Surviving my wife’s PMS?

Is she really saying what you say she is? Is she actually saying ‘you’re bad’ or are you interpreting others things she’s saying to mean that? If she is saying that, is it possible she means something else? A lot of times when people lack communication skills expressions of frustration can come out...

Re: Surviving my wife’s PMS?

Have you heard of the non violent communication programe? Could be worth looking at the principles found there - subtle tweaks in how we respond to others and frame our own qualms from how we are feeling can have big effects. Be honest about it and tell her but also expect to hear her. If you can b...

Re: Surviving my wife’s PMS?

It also sounds to me that it is other 'stress' that is the main culprit here. Even before the PMS, there are various sources of stress and this is where energy can be applied to face these situations in a better way. What do you practice? Is this something you've been working with? Thanks for your ...

Re: Surviving my wife’s PMS?

You don't mention how old you both are or how long you've been married, both of which might color an appropriate response to your post. If, as you say, you really do love each other, then it sounds as though you are both ripe for couples counseling. Learning to manage anger constructively in a rela...

Surviving my wife’s PMS?

Hello, I’m struggling to survive my wife’s PMS month after month, year after year. Significant problems in life (especially economic security, or lack of) that are mostly kept in perspective and balance just become magnified. Not only do I then just have to deal with my own underlying stress, anxiet...

Re: 5 precepts. Alcohol?

Thanks. And cheers  I read a Vajrasattva practice text pdf I downloaded which says about abstaining from actions for a minute, an hour or a day. Something like that. For as long as possible. So this gave me the impression there is some possible flexibility. That I won't "go to hell"...

Re: Correct prostrations

Thanks. That’s interesting. I switched around different centres as I have moved for work and there is not always a lot of choice. FWBO/Triratna, Rigpa (Nyingma), a Mahayana study group, and a Zen group. Mahayana appeals most.

Re: Questions on Amitabha and Vajrayana/Mahayana

Thanks a lot. For some reason I posted a reply and it disappeared. I’ll try to remember what I wrote. Yes I am with you so far but your reply has given me a few more questions and things to think about. What (in very concise form) is the common answer for what or who Amitabha is? And what is a typic...

Re: 5 precepts. Alcohol?

I see. Thanks. So the 5 precepts are not really for everyday practice. I was thinking of reciting them every morning but then thought I might find it difficult if I feel like a drink in the evening especially if I have to go somewhere to see friends or for a social event.

Correct prostrations

Please can anyone clarify something for me. I was once taught how to do prostrations by a western Buddhist. Not sure what these prostrations are called. The ones where you go onto your knees but not the full length prostrations. I was told you have to put your hands in four places, on the crown of y...

Questions on Amitabha and Vajrayana/Mahayana

Hi everyone, I was just reading something about Amitabha and I got slightly confused. First I am interested in what is meant by “Pure Land Buddhism.” Also according to what I read online Amitabha is common in Vajrayana Buddhism and also in Mahayana Buddhism. This made me realize that I am very confu...

5 precepts. Alcohol?

Hi, I am interested in learning more about the 5 Precepts for laypeople. Do many people using this forum recite these every day? And if you do, do you never drink alcohol? Fro example if you know one day that you are likely to be going somewhere where you’ll drink do you just not recite the precepts...

Food, diet, health

Hi, I’ve been advised by a doctor to experiment with my diet in order to see if certain food types are causing a current annoying bladder problem. Getting older is not nice. I eat quite healthily and I’m a vegetarian, but have a bit of a coffee addiction and a sugar/chocolate addiction (although I d...
