Please pray for the well-being of long-time Dharma practitioner Elizabeth Breck, who has been missing from the vicinity of Tucson, AZ, since last Sunday, Jan. 13: https://tucson.com/news/local/authoriti ... e5c3e.html

Thangka blessing question

A friend brought a thangka painting of White Tara to a Kagyu lama to be blessed. He expected the lama to write the mantric syllables on the back of the thangka and sign it as usual. Instead, the lama did not write on the painting but had him hold the thangka up while the lama chanted and tossed a ha...

Re: Donating one's organs at death

Haven't read every post, so sorry if someone mentioned this, but HE Garchen Rinpoche said during a recent teaching that, while Chod practice is only a mental exercise for most, donating one's organs at death "is the real Chod." I believe he also said something to the effect that there is no need to ...

Re: More claims of sexual exploitation...

It's off the topic of sexual assault, but what is nearly as depressing as the allegation against Lobsang Sangay is the extreme regionalism the commenters on the linked Tibet Star article express. I hope some of them are just non-Tibetan trolls.

"Vajra Armor"

(Didn't know if this question would be appropriate for the open forum or not; if so, it could be moved there.) One of my sadhanas describes the deity as wearing "vajra armor" ("dorje gotrab,") as in "wearing a black cloak, vajra armor, and the cemetery accoutrements." As the lama did not describe ex...

That's pretty, Ayu. You must have painted it? (Can't think of any musical puns, though.)

Re: Sweet Home To Alabamians.

But, DGA, the other thing Jones needs to remember is that he also wouldn't have won without the numerous Republicans who followed Sen. Shelby's example and wrote in the names of Republicans who weren't quite as repugnant as Moore. Those votes amounted to more than Jones' margin of victory. Sadly,Joh...

Hell

Most people, as human beings, don't remember their previous lives. Is there any teaching based on meditative realization, or the experience of delogs, etc, that indicate whether beings in hell have any memory of their previous misdeeds or have any idea why they are where they are?

Middle Eastern & African refugees on Lesbos

Hope some others also saw the story on PBS News Hour yesterday about the sad situation of refugees who are stuck on the Greek island of Lesbos. Dharma Wheel's own Grigoris, who offers psychological counseling to the refugees, was interviewed and spoke of how life in the camps there is so miserable t...

Thanks for the link to the beautiful thangka of Gyabpra Rinpoche's Achi practice. The forms of Achi are identified, but who are the deities in yab-yum at the top of the image? Thank you.

Re: Making Tibet great again

The denial of the soccer team's visas is really a sad commentary on the state of the US, and I hope it doesn't also portend difficulties for Tibetan lamas seeking visas to teach their American students. Incidentally, here is what purports to be the actual quote from H.L. Mencken: "The larger the mob...

A practice called "Lama Chopa" is pretty commonly done at Drikung Kagyu centers. The one in my town has Lama Chopa each New Moon day.

Re: Adultery and Being a Buddhist

I'm no one you should particularly listen to, but it is my understanding that the nature of our karma depends largely on our motivation. In the human realm, out motives are often mixed. Self-clinging, negative emotions often coexist with more positive motives. As ClearblueSky said, the clinging atta...
