Re: Sten Anspal thesis question

Great posts as always, Mutsuk! I'm curious if you or JLA are working on Longde texts these days and is any publication on this topic, in English or French, expected in the future?

Re: Sten Anspal thesis question

Very kind of you... Sadly there just doesn't seem to be a lot on VB translated into English and I am too old and brain damaged to try and learn Tibetan. Don't suppose you have heard of the Longde Root Upadesha of Dzin Dharmabodhi/Nyengyu Dorje Zampai Nyamtrid Gamgyi Yige Salwai Dronma have you? Eve...

Re: Dagpo Kagyu empowerments

Kagyu certainly does not lack lineages of full four empowerments, see for example the Kagyu Ngakdzö, Dam-ngak dzö, etc. Some of these bypass Gampopa and go instead through Rechungpa, Ngok etc; but there are also lineages that go through Gampopa, for example the empowerment of Cakrasamvara in the Dak...

I noticed only now that the question was about the Akṣayamatiparipṛcchā, not the Akṣayamatinirdeśa! My bad.

Re: Akṣayamatiparipṛcchā-sūtra

Yes, it was translated by Jens Braarvig and published in two volumes under the title Aksayamatinirdesasutra: The Tradition of Imperishability in Buddhist Thought. The translation is made on the basis of the Tibetan translation as well as the surviving Sanskrit fragments of the text. Braarvig backtra...

While you're at it, add also a subscript a to the last syllable in སྭཱ་ཧཱ.

Re: Mamo Botong tantra

Mamo Bötong is transmitted as part of the Kagye. Kagye empowerments are given in the West as well, but not very often, I think.

Re: Guru Rinpoche empowerment from H.E. Garchen Rinpoche - March 13 2020

Participated in the empowerment online. Does anyone know if this is from the Peling Lama Norbu cycle? I didn't participate in this particular empowerment, but in general, the Guru Rinpoche practice most commonly used in Drikung (and included in the collection of 50 empowerments) is from Pema Lingpa...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Has anyone received advice on whether it's possible to do the 3-day retreat if one has other daily recitation commitments? Dorje Lingpa's text doesn't address this issue.

Re: tibetan art books

I'd recommend publications by the Rubin Museum of Art -- they come with good descriptions and analysis and are reasonably priced when new (and apparently worth a small fortune when out of print). For example, the Masterworks of Tibetan Painting Series by David Jackson, an excellent scholar. You can ...

It's not OK legally AFAIK, but in terms of ethics, I say knock your socks off. You already shelled out money and the author got paid, so no harm done.

Re: Unredacted 'Intact' Sanskrit Tantras

I'm sure you know that book already, but in A Bolt of Lightning From the Blue, Martin Boord has assembled a collection of quotes from Tantras in Sanskrit that have to do with phur pa. He also translates an extract from a Vajrakīlaya tantra that was translated directly from Sanskrit by Sakya Pandita,...
