Re: What are the seven gems?

From the Kāraṇḍavyūha : Those who continually gather and offer flowers and incense to Bodhisattva Mahāsattva Avalokiteśvara will become cakravartin kings who possess the seven jewels. The seven jewels are: the precious wheel, the precious horse, the precious elephant, the precious jewel, the precio...

Re: Alan Wallace DZ related Q&A

His teachings are trilungs, i.e. reading transmission interspersed with oral commentary, using his own translations. I've not attended in person but have listened to some of his retreats that are available for free as podcasts. Can't get a lung from a recording... Oh, I agree. I just meant his form...

He wrote nothing.
That is not true, Rinpoche wrote at least several texts, among them lineage prayer for Thugdrub Terkha Dundu and manual of drubchen of this practice. I hope his students will prepare and publish Rinpoche's sungbum.
His sungbum just came out in 5 volumes.

As have others such as Yangsi Kalu Rinpoche.
Indeed. I'll put a link to this old piece on Kalu R here for reference. Those colorful Tibetan monasteries don't look quite the same after reading it.

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I would like some clarification on mantra of six spaces. In most sources it say`s A A SHA SA MA HA, yet N.N.Norbu Rinpoche uses Ha A HA SHA SA MA, can anyone tell me what`s the reason behind that, is it from different termas? I would welcome some explanation. Thnx Rinpoche's version is found in Cha...

Re: Which book on meditation would you recommend?

Typo on my phone. I meant dhyanas. In Theravada they have 8 or 9 jhanas. Dhyana is the Sanskrit equivalent. Are they similar in Mahayana and Vajrayana? Dhyāna in Sanskrit = Jhāna in Pali. Same thing in Mahāyāna and Śrāvakayāna. The nine stages of śamatha you see in Mahāyāna are preparatory stages b...

A kind of otherkin or something like them were around in the Buddha's time, too. He (reluctantly) once discussed these people.

Re: Diets are dumb

Here's what the Buddha taught on dieting. When seeing the fat king Prasenajit overeating, he did recommend him a kind of diet, "mindfulness of the proper amount of food", so to speak.

His verse reminds me of modern scientific results on the effects of caloric restriction on longevity.
