Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Does anyone have advice about how to do the Nine Breathings or other breathwork when at least one nostril is blocked, e.g. due to allergies or a cold? Aside from, of course, taking a decongestant or antihistamine. You can get temporary relief from congestion from exercise -- prostrations, for examp...

Re: Dalai Lama's daily practice - specific details

“I am not able to do much Dzogchen practice, but these days I do Vajrakilaya, Hevajra, Five-deity Heruka, Vajrayogini, which comes from the Sakyas, Kurukulla, as well as the Kagye Chidril composed by the Fifth Dalai Lama. Rigzin Pema Trinley urged, ‘Though you let other teachings decline, don’t let...

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

That's interesting, can you say more about it? With a complete main initiation of one of the four classes of tantra, one also receives the vajra-master empowerment that invests one with the authority to give initiations, teach the tantras, perform consecrations, etc. Of course, having received this...

Re: Did the 84 mahasiddhas authorize others to teach?

Very interesting: So far nobody presented a strong case why teaching authorisation was part of the lineage system in the early days of Vajrayana. This settles an uncertainty I had on this topic for quite some time in a, for me, surprising way. Well, there is a formal way of authorization to teach t...

So a shorter length empowerment like a torwang could be a ripening empowerment, yes?
I believe so.

Then the Great Fith practiced Dzogchen according: - His visions based on Nyingma Dzogchen ? The Great Fifth did not practice just based on his own visions, but received an incredible amount of Dzogchen teachings such as the Northern Treasures, the Kunzang Gongdü revealed by Pema Lingpa (on which th...

Re: "Ripening" empowerment = ?

What precisely is being referred to when an initiation is listed as a "ripening" empowerment? A ripening empowerment is just the complete four empowerments of an abhiṣeka, which mature one's continuum and confer the samaya that protect that maturation. Simpler initiatory rites like permission-rites...

Re: Garchen Rinpoche Chakrasamvara Empowerment & Ganges Mahamudra

Is it normal in the Kagyu to give the Vajrayogini empowerment first? In Gelugpa the Heruka empowerment usually precedes the Vajrayogini in HYT. You've discovered an issue that has been controversial since the 13th century (see Sakya Pandita's Clear Differentiation of the Three Vows and also this. )

Nope..you need D.I. & Transmission :
It says: "...have received the specific lung transmission for any practice materials including mantras." This book doesn't include mantras. If you have D.I., you're good to go. If in doubt, e-mail them and ask.

This seems to be the new schedule. Apparently instead of the NTY4 the program now has Fivefold Mahamudra, teachings on Base, Path and Fruit, and Yumka Dechen Gyalmo.

Re: Largest one day drop in U.S. stock market - in history

Take a long view, and understand that over a long period of time, the market typically averages out to a 10-11 percent return, subtract inflation, and you have your real return (hence the panic over inflation in the market for the past couple of trading days). Stocks are not for most people. This i...

Re: Dharani of Glorious Vajra claws / Dorje Dermo

Well, you can start by listening to teachings on Bodhicitta by Bodhisattvas like HH the Dalai Lama, Sakya Trizin, or Garchen Rinpoche. On Youtube, if you don't have possibility to travel. Eventually one needs to meet a teacher and receive teachings in person, but one has to start somewhere.
