Exactly this....it's a place for the discussion of dharma, not meaningless worldly concerns. Or at least it should be.PadmaVonSamba wrote: ↑Fri Mar 29, 2024 2:12 am If someone cant explain what their thread topic has to do with Buddhism, perhaps they should ask themselves why they are bringing it up in a Buddhist forum.

Re: Was karmamudra part of ganachakra in the ancient India?
I can't imagine how mutually enjoying prolonged sexual union with another person could possibly be misuse of the Teachings when two consenting adults are involved. Not necessarily misuse but activities that generate strong attachment are, to say the least, somewhat antithetical to the goal of liber...

Re: Is Nyingma much more spread than Sarma (in Europe)?
I would like to educate myself at least a bit what is the approach of Sarma schools of how to achieve enlightenment and for that, receiving some transmissions or teachings would be helpful This book gives a very clear and precise explanation of the (Geluk) tantric path although I'm not sure to what...

Re: Stagnant sanghas, teachers not teaching
Regarding pilgrimage, it largely depends on individuals I guess. On one side of the spectrum, there are individuals who argue that since according to higher teaching like anuyoga and hyt, taught that all biological equivalences of the holy sities are constantly present in our vajra body, why is eve...

Re: The heart as the seat of consiousness
As part of a general interest (both practical and scholarly), I'm curious if there are any teachings / resources on the physical heart as the seat of consciousness in Mahayana / Vajrayana Buddhism. According to some tantric teachings the subtle mind of clear light resides within the indestructible ...

Re: How should a Tibetan Buddhist lay person view sensual pleasures?
Vajrayana is a happy life. Grab yourself a pretty lady, put on the music, cook the filet mignon, drink some wine, dance, put the moves on, and love, and whisper mantras in her ear and tickle her up and down her spine. Be a lion. I don't care what the monks have to pretend to be. This is love langua...

Obituary for Lama Zopa Rinpoche
This profoundly moving tribute to Lama Zopa Rinpoche was recently published on the FPMT website. It's hard to imagine any practitioner of Tibetan Buddhism not being inspired by Rinpoche's extraordinary life and example. Well worth reading.

Has he left the forum or is he in retreat?
I really miss his intelligent and informative input.

In India: Bodhgaya, Sarnath and Kushinagar are the most important ones and as previously mentioned Vulture's Peak is well worth a visit - the nearby ruins of Nalanda Monastery are awe inspiring. Less well known is Shravasti where for over 20 years Buddha held the annual 3 months rainy season retreat...

I've heard it said a statue should always be consecrated so spirits can't take up residence inside and interfere with our practice but not sure if this only applies to those that are hollow.

If you're serious enough about your practice to go into a one, three, or seven year retreat, I reckon you need to have a very intense personality. With more distractions than ever trying to steal our time, you can't have the mindset of an ordinary person while also being really successful in dharma...

He commits a parajika offense if he does what, exactly? Parajika is a transgression of one of the 4 root vows of a fully ordained monk.....killing a human, lying about spiritual attainments, stealing something of value and sexual intercourse but there are levels of ordination....pre-novice, novice ...
