Re: New Tranlation: Ratnamegha Sutra

In a realm far away the Buddha Padmanetra gives advice to a group of bodhisattvas who are going to visit this realm: Once you are in that realm, be careful. Why? Because among the beings of that realm desire, anger, and dullness are rife. They have no regard for mendicants and no regard for brahmins...

Re: Saka Dawa 2019

Sādhaka, No expert am I, but if Dawa means month, a lunar month from New Moon thru Full, back to New, I would guess merit multiplying occurs on every one of those days. The maximum would be on the day of the Full Moon. Now how exactly the length of the Full Moon day is measured and how or if merit i...

As the sun and moon glide across the mountains of the west,
As days and nights, hours and moments flee,
Life flows away, inexorably.

Re: Bodhicitta Motivation

The fundamental nature of consciousness and its attributes cannot be separated, just as fire cannot be separated from heat. But these qualities are not manifest. It is like a sword whose sharpness remains invisible while the blade is in its sheath, or like a mirror, which has the capacity to reflec...

Re: Benefits of Prayer Wheels by Kyabje Zopa Rinpoche

More from Kyabje Zopa on the Wheel of Great Compassion which is the book this extract came from: The prayer wheel is a manifestation of the Compassion Buddha's holy speech. Through this practice, one then achieves the holy mind, holy body, and all the qualities of the Compassion Buddha. Some readers...

Re: Avatamsaka Sutra

Translations for large sutras are slow, but 84000 has started several chapters of the Avatamsaka. From the Tibetan, while checking the Chinese I am guessing.

Perhaps more scholarship than many care about, but a good study of the varied Sanskrit, Tibetan, Chinese etc. translations of the corpus:

Re: The Golden Light Sutra

Most of us have heard that our Buddha, in a previous lifetime, gave his body to a starving tigress. This event, in prose and verse, is told in chapter 18 of this sutra. The Tathagata said that sacrifice was a major step toward buddhahood for him. Here is how that chapter ends: I, the Tathagata Shaky...

Re: Favorite Sutra?

For those who prefer books to pdfs ... There are PDFs on sutrasmantras.info? Honestly, the site is a bit difficult to navigate. My mistake; the individual sutras are all html at the site. Although, if one takes the trouble to copy them into Word or OpenOffice you can make a PDF. The books are avail...

I searched 84000.co in vain: could someone kindly provide me with a link to the Prajñāpāramitāsūtra (pdf in preference) Have a good Saga Dawa time and thanks. There are many PP sutras, of varying lengths. Here is one PDF from 84000 (click on Published texts only): http://read.84000.co/section/O1J...

Re: The Golden Light Sutra

I've compared the chapter on Drdha from the 21-chapter version and the 29-chapter version. The 29-chapter version has a whole ritual for invoking Drdha, including building a mandala, and three mantras which the 21-chapter version doesn't include at all. Can't say about any of the other chapters. Th...

Re: The Golden Light Sutra

Wiki mentions: In Tibetan, there are three versions of the Sutra: the 21, 29, and 31 chapter versions. The 29 Chapter Version was probably the most popular in Tibet and Tibetan Buddhist regions. FPMT published a 15, then a 21 chapter version. I wonder if there is, in English, the 29 or 31 chapter ve...
