Re: Open call for No Moderators

Why not be radical and have no moderators?

"Sticks and stones may break bones but names will never hurt one."

Between using the Foe function and just plain ignoring & shunning, I think things will be fine.

Re: new Mahayanasutralamkara

Now that one can compare - the English is ... quaint & often opaque. Some linguist may explain why-so. Compare these first two verses of chapter one with the Padmakara version in my 28 Nov. post: Kārikā Prathamaḥ The way of wisdom knowing, for a means of contemplation, enacts, ‸ a revered text, with...

Please read the instructions, else one can not select a book, then chapter, then format, i.e. English, or the fully tagged Lexicon :: https://www.taracandra.org/VacasPati/VacasPati.html If I understood the instructions I would not be asking for your help. Re: new Mahayanasutralamkara

Please do consider our HTML version : https://www.taracandra.org/MSA/MSA9/MSA9.html Which is in active development, and complete through chapter 9 'Bodhi'. This is a multipart document. Usage is described here: https://www.taracandra.org/VacasPati/VacasPati.html One best might use it as separate br...

5. This difficult Dharma, extensive and profound, Is like a monarch—difficult to please; Yet if pleased, it likewise will bestow The riches of sublime qualities. 6. Re: Ksitigarbha 108 names

Some may wonder if mantras like Manjushri and Ksitigarbha, as well as Sarva Nivaranavishkhambhin, Tara, Avalokiteshvara, Akashagarbha, Maitreya, Vajrapani, Samantabhadra can be recited without initiation? I would guess yes, but am not certain. Where can one find translated versions of any long versi...

Re: new Mahayanasutralamkara

A fine remark by Ju Mipham in Padmakara translation: The points taught in all the Mahāyāna sūtras can be condensed into two: profound and extensive. The profound teachings can be summarized as suchness devoid of dualistic conceptual constructs such as subject and object, and self and other. Even tho...

Wonder if Sylvain Levi's French translation, circa 1907, was ever put into English?

Re: Upcoming book by Karl Brunnhölzl on The Aspiration Prayer of Samantabhadra

Since English is such a 'borrowing' language, (alpha from the Greek sure fits,) then why not incorporate more Buddhist Sanskrit terms if the translator cannot abide prosaic English versions? Certainly it is the case that a number of terms in Dzogchen can be in Sanskrit, such as dharmata for example...

Re: Upcoming book by Karl Brunnhölzl on The Aspiration Prayer of Samantabhadra

In English dictionaries alpha as a modifier is 'dominant' or 'first'. I would hope that 'dominant' purity is not the gist - sounds like a battle among purities. I mean, in post-Christian cultures and languages, such as those of Western Europe, there's still the echo of the Book of Revelation, "I am...

In English dictionaries alpha as a modifier is 'dominant' or 'first'. I would hope that 'dominant' purity is not the gist - sounds like a battle among purities. Without translators we the unwashed louts would be far worse off. Yet they are fond of carving out new or unique frames for Dharma words. I...
