Re: Two solutions for karma and not-self paradox

Yes Vasana, that is a good one; the same sutra was also included in Chang's old Treasury of Mahayana Sutras, pp 223ff.

To complicate things, there is no sutra exclusively on Karma as far as I can see: the info seems to be scattered through various texts and is never consolidated.
Here is another sutra on karma and fruits of karma:

Not sure if this staff is unique to Chan or even if it is used anymore, but interesting symbolism to it:

Re: Inspiring Thoughts

The conservative is concerned, first of all, with the regeneration of the spirit and character—with the perennial problem of the inner order of the soul, the restoration of the ethical understanding, and the religious sanction upon which any life worth living is founded. This is conservatism at its...

Re: Classic English Poetry

Sundays too my father got up early and put his clothes on in the blueblack cold, then with cracked hands that ached from labor in the weekday weather made banked fires blaze. No one ever thanked him. I’d wake and hear the cold splintering, breaking. When the rooms were warm, he’d call, and slowly I...

A new topical compilation of some of Blavatsky's The Secret Doctrine , put together by Fiona Odgren. Have not read it yet, but it will have an appeal to those who wish not to read the entire 1400 pages of the original. http://www.powells.com/book/timeless-truths-of-the-secret-doctrine-9781490782263/...

Re: Inspiring Thoughts

To reform a world, to reform a nation, no wise man will undertake; and all but foolish men know, that the only solid, though a far slower reformation, is what each begins and perfects on himself.

Ocean of Reason by Mabja Bodhisattva

This is a new translation, from Snow Lion, of Nagarjuna's Root of the Middle Way with an extensive (over 500pp) commentary by Mabja Jangchub Tsondru (died 1185). The main translator is Thomas Doctor, part of the Dharmachakra Translation Committee. The root text stands alone, and later each verse or ...

Nagarjuna in China

A very lame title for an important translation done in 1995 by Brian Bocking; text and commentary run to about 350pp, plus another 100pp of apparatus. Near the end of Kumarajiva's life he translated Nagarjuna's Madhyamakakarika into Chinese, along with a commentary whose authorship is fuzzy, which s...
