Re: what makes Buddhist deathlessness not eternalism?

It is not important at all to the Sakyapas since early on the Sakyapas have found the whole idea of the interpretation of the three turnings as being applicable to different phases of the Buddha's teaching career in clear contradiction with statements by Maitreya and so on as well as with reason. H...

Re: what makes Buddhist deathlessness not eternalism?

Seems like something to ask someone like Karma Thinley Rinpoche or another Tibetan. I bet you could have an interesting talk with them about it. Tibetans rarely study these things. Really? Eeh gads you found something the scholars don't study. Hope it's not because of Madhyamaka or the source. Sorr...

Re: Has medicalization gone too far?

Ambrosius i got hit by a diesel truck and went home and hid in my house and broiled in adrenaline for a year before seeking help. Have ptsd and the docs said damn that was dumb you could have come to hospital and we would have given you something. Then they just used the book and went from drug to d...

Re: Has medicalization gone too far?

Ayu, pills are about the only thing that can treat some more severe disorders currently. Schizophrenia for instance, there is not much else that has met with much clinical success from what I've read. Some therapies are used with the drugs, but with many severe disorders, unfortunately there are no...

Re: Independent Research on Chogyam Trungpa

I think Trungpa was more influential to the institutionalization of Buddha Dharma in the US than HHDL was until the early 1980s, and made a deeper impression into US culture at that time than HHDL did at that time. . CTR certainly made an big impression in pop culture, but his arrival in the US was...

Re: The harms of Masturbation and Porn

Also, I've noticed that masturbation feels terrible when compared to peace in meditation. It is such a misfortune to have desires that strong in order to make oneself feel so unpleasant to masturbate. I've found that bliss in meditation feels kind of like what I imagine a female orgasm to feel like.

:yinyang: You are talking about more of a paradigm shift I feel :namaste: Ehh, what an honour!? ;-) No visible paradigm shift, but it´s kind of dramatic with this holy war . I had a picture of the Middle East ... in my mind. No worries, I´m a little bit*h too. :namaste: The above I don't understand....

Re: Has medicalization gone too far?

It´s ironic, if you were asked if you sometimes thought life was a "field of suffering" - then these people don´t look any better with their epidemics crisis. Ah, now we are talking the same language. Yes, I see what you mean. But already said. There is a difference between ptsd, schizoph...

That is one place where society in general has made progress. Same with homosexuality. Maybe someday violence. One of these days humanity will come out of the dark ages. (I hope)

Yes but only in countries where there are veggies. Forget exact Vinaya wording for that

Re: Alcohol

Depends upon your situation. I think H H Dudjom Rinpoche said ngagpas could drink one glass of alcohol. Gampopa let the three men from Kham drink three kapalas full of chang.

Ask your mentor probably the best bet.

Re: Buddhist Keychains

This may be a random question, but I was wondering... I have recently come across some "Buddhist" keychains, with the Diamond Sutra, Great Compassion Mantra, etc, written out in Chinese. I thought the idea of carrying something like this around sounded nice, as another reminder of mindful...

Intention also plays a role. Know a guy who went to get vasectomy and his doctor told him to go wild yanking it to get all the live ones out. He did till he dud. Common sense does play a role in certain circumstances. Like a doctor telling you to eat meat.

Re: Go to places that scare you? (Machig Labdron slogans)

There is quote by a Kagyu practitioner basically saying that your own mind is the scariest place. Also this quote from Natural Liberation , In a way, we’re already corpses in the preparation, so our present environment is already a cemetery of sorts. Consequently, do you really need to go elsewhere?...

Re: Has medicalization gone too far?

I'll throw this out there. I sat down and talked to a Cherokee medicine man before I was invited to a sweat and he said hey you have a break in your aura. Years later walk into a psychiatrist office and the guy mentions that I have a break in my aura. Both of these guys were familiar with reiki. Hol...
