Re: Guan Yin oracles?

That is Guan Yin the folk goddess in the video, not Guanyin the Bodhisattva.

No, Buddhas and Bodhisattvas do not communicate through oracles. Although I heard they use e-mail.

Re: How to believe in rebirth

If a non-buddhist or atheist asks you why you believe in karma and rebirth, how would you reply to them? This is a question I have many times asked myself. In my experience discussing this things with others most times is useless, especially if they don't share the same bases for view. I'm not sure...

Re: Response to Bernie

I see how you could think like that, but I actually think it would be a lot worse if he didn't speak up. I don't see any other lama in this world that ever would accept questions like the ones he been getting during these talks. I listened to all of the talks. /magnus Yes, I agree. I've only listen...

I didn't, but curiosity led me to https://www.sahapedia.org/the-religious-iconography-and-stylistic-analysis-of-the-alchi-group-of-monuments and https://www.sahapedia.org/cross-cultural-influences-the-early-buddhist-art-of-ladakh . :coffee: Kim Yes that's it, I knew it had a bit of kashmir ...

Buddhist art of Alchi, Ladakh

Does anyone know about the sacred art style found in Alchi, Ladakh? Name, influences (I can tell it's very Indian in style), online sources, etc? https://thumbs-prod.si-cdn.com/PhKRKK_CRtkpPVVm2H6ihETuFP0=/fit-in/1072x0/https://public-media.smithsonianmag.com/filer/Alchi-goddess-Tara.jpg I've been m...

Re: Can you practice Tibetan Buddhism without ever had a Guru?

I could go on but you get the point. Considering the immense hardships that masters of the past endured to receive teachings, it is pretty absurd for people today to complain about the difficulties of finding a teacher. I count myself under does absurd people. A good modern internet expression is "...

Re: Response to Bernie

Started watching the Berlin video; I'm having trouble processing DJKR's take on "what the Buddha actually taught" and "Cinderella sutras". I'm hopeful that this is elaborated later on in the talk but it does seem like a very strange statement to make with such certainty. Or maybe I'm just too dull ...

What scriptures mention smoke offerings or the ritual burning of incense?
You mean sang? No sūtras mention Sang, since it is a native Tibetan custom.

Incense is mentioned frequently.
Ah that's what I guessed. Is there any particular sutra which deals with Health benefits of incense?

Re: Where can you hear worldly deities?

I'll watch it later, but since you're OP.... do you have any actual questions to be answered, or is this just sorta open-ended? Cause if it's open-ended, I have nothing more to contribute. I would call it, an open-ended discussion on the answer given by LJT. Is he talking about Devas? Or something ...

Re: To what extent do hell beings inhabit our world of physical objects?

I thought they could be reborn into chairs, tables, brooms, etc etc.... Those are temporary hells, but the hells realms do not, according to Mahāyāna thinking, have physical existence. I am also a bit confused by this one Loppön, what do you mean with "temporary hells"? Aren't all hells tem...
