Why?
Just curious, I never really read a satisfying answer to this question. Mantrik's answer seems to sum it up.

Reasonable things to tattoo

What dharma related things are acceptable to tattoo? Obviously Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are out.
I mean Mantras, auspicious symbols, Devas, Nagas, Garudas... Things like that.

Actually, the comparison that is usually made with ataraxia is not Nirvāṇa, but 'nirodha', meaning 'cessation'. Nirodha is certainly a key aspect of the Buddhist path, but it is not the final aim.
I think those are synonyms, no? nirodha and Nirvāṇa?

Nirvāṇa and Ataraxia

Quick question, is it possible to translate nirvāṇa as ataraxia? Are they the same concept? Ataraxia (ἀταραξία, literally, "not perturbed", generally translated as "imperturbability", "equanimity", or "tranquillity") is a Greek philosophy term used to describe a lucid state of robust equanimity that...

Re: Of Concentration Camps and Prisons - Split from "Korean War Over?"

And now a group of republicans have nominated Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize...you've got to hand it to script writers for this presidential soap opera, they know how to maintain the audience's attention. Wonder what they are really distracting us from? Obama got a Nobel Peace Prize and he started...

Re: Young people are loneliest?

I'd say loneliness comes from a variety of complex issues, and while age can influence it, you will find serious cases of loneliness in all age groups. Younger people tend to isolate themselves from society, while older people tend to be isolated by society itself...

Re: Fantasy

Buddhists could learn a thing or two from Christians and Muslims on this point. No, I don't think this is true on any level at all. I agree with Loppon. Buddhist charity organizations tend to be "not so obviously" Buddhist. For example here in Portugal, one of the most influential charity organizat...

Re: Fantasy

This is the Kali Yuga after all. The sense of self-righteousness or moral-outrage we may feel can't last long when we're still subject to the same root afflictions that we admonish others for. 'Pointing out faults to a short-tempered retinue In these degenerate times, even with the wish to benefit,...
