Re: Hello, people

Hi, everyone, Moreover, since there isn't a buddhist community near where I live (São Paulo, Brazil), I think this might be the closest thing to Sangha that I can experience nowadays. Nice to meet you all. Olá :hi: There isn't a buddhist community in São Paulo? A quick google search comes up with m...

I use a calendar I bought online because I like the pictures.
I stopped being a pretend Tibetan about the same time that I reverted to my birth name.
Its all just more stuff to clear away.
Using the Tibetan lunar calendar is "pretending to be tibetan"?

Hair Cutting Days

So what is the logic behind auspicious and inauspicious hair cutting days? How many of you follow them?

Re: Meditate and grow your ego

The article and study are obviously talking about contemporary mindfullness practice, not buddhism. But the psychological study didn’t examine whether Buddhist teachings themselves influenced this ego boost. Yoga alone may not be enough to dissolve the ego, but one psychological study does not inval...

Hariti is a fertility goddess in japan and is worshiped by Nichiren sects.

Even today in Nepal there are mediums who channel these two yakshas
So it seems from what I have read.

I wonder what gave them so much relevance in Gandhara?

Relevance of Pañcika and Hārītī

So what is the relevance of this couple of deities? Why were this deities (devas or Yakṣas?) so popular in the indo-greek sphere? And are they relevant today in any tradition? Pañcika was often represented holding a lance and a bag of jewels or money together with Hariti in the Greco-Buddhist art of...

Reasonable things to tattoo

What dharma related things are acceptable to tattoo? Obviously Buddhas and Bodhisattvas are out.
I mean Mantras, auspicious symbols, Devas, Nagas, Garudas... Things like that.

Actually, the comparison that is usually made with ataraxia is not Nirvāṇa, but 'nirodha', meaning 'cessation'. Nirodha is certainly a key aspect of the Buddhist path, but it is not the final aim.
I think those are synonyms, no? nirodha and Nirvāṇa?

Nirvāṇa and Ataraxia

Quick question, is it possible to translate nirvāṇa as ataraxia? Are they the same concept? Ataraxia (ἀταραξία, literally, "not perturbed", generally translated as "imperturbability", "equanimity", or "tranquillity") is a Greek philosophy term used to describe a lucid state of robust equanimity that...
