Atisha Dipankara taught vajrayana in Srivijaya on Sumatra. It spread also to Java. I love this place.

Re: What tradition of Buddhism does Master Jun Hong Lu belong to?

We can debate what "standard buddhism" is, but I think no matter whatever we can agree is 'standard buddhism'- this probably is not that. You can find videos of his events online. I think they are worth watching a few, or listen to his radio show. Better to hear what the man himself has to say then ...

Re: Borodudur

This book is very good for learning how the symbolism corresponds to the texts:
Kandahjaya, Hudaya. The Master Key For Reading Borobudur Symbolism. Bandung 1995

Also should look at this. It cites the book I mentioned above

Re: Borodudur's upper levels

Upper levels: While the lower levels of Borobudur depict scenes from the Buddhist sutras, the top terraces of the monument indicate an advance knowledge of Tantric Buddhism. It is on these terraces that we find three circles of stupas which surround the central and top stupa. Inside each of these st...

Re: Borodudur's lower levels

Lower levels: Borobudur is a multileveled structure with no interior spaces. The ten levels of the structure are said to correspond with the ten stages of the bodhisattva according to Mahayana doctrine. These ten levels can be further divided into three sections representing the three realms as taug...

Avoid the NKT (New Kadampa Tradition). They have residential centres but for all sorts of reasons I would never recommend anyone to even attend a class, nor are they even discussed on this forum.
This post is against the tos.

Re: german prosecution office investigates Ole Nydahl for incitement to hatred

It seems like a better buddhist practice than using force and threats of force to suppress free speech.

Re: Charging for Dharma

Are children allowed free? How about an elderly discount? If I pay more do I get a better seat? Do they have stamp cards, buy 10 and the next one is free? Something like that? Or a half price tuesday? Or do we get a discount coupon if we buy something at the store next door? Or coupons on wechat? Sh...

Re: Charging for Dharma

I doubt that a person went to a teaching and really said that. It is just a joke and one that usually is used to criticise tibetan buddhism. But I think that criticism has some truth. Every lama wants his own center. And even monastic lamas are taken out to the most expensive restaurants, etc. Payin...

Re: Charging for Dharma

Typical smart-ass, stingy western Dharma student response. I would have kicked their ass out of the teaching. Not funny in the slightest, sad and telling, actually. I'm not sure this joke was made by a westerner, it's a very old joke. Anyways it speaks to the case that in tibetan-buddhist circles, ...
