Re: In between Taoism and Buddhism

In other words, the foundation for Buddhism is built upon a series of logical arguments. For Taoism, the foundation of personal experience with Tao builds the subsequent logical arguments which may not even be necessary. Thanks again, and this is a great conversation for me. Please feel free to con...

Re: In between Taoism and Buddhism

Hey all, Fairly general question here, but can anyone recommend any good resources for someone who is finding themselves moving towards a balance between Buddhism and Taoism? I have a library of good Buddhist material but am a little light on the Taoist side as it is relatively new to me. In readin...

Re: Brahman and Atman in Kagyu?

I'm not really sure what this big difference really amounts to, in terms of yogic practice and its relationship to philosophical understanding. Simply this.Buddhadharma, including Kagyu is the path to liberation. Vedanta is eternalist and does not lead to liberation.

Re: time traveling?

Whether time travel is a genuine phenomenon is not the point in the context of a forum dedicated to 'the discussion of Mahayana and Vajrayana Buddhism'. The only question is does time travel aid enlightenment? And a swift perusal of those claiming to experience that phenomena suggests that it does ...

Re: Concentration camps for Tibetans

May our Tibetan fellows have the strength to endure and may our Chinese fellows quickly realize their errors. I wouldn't say our Chinese fellows personally because fellows, to me, means that a large amount of people endorsed, meditated upon, and executed such decisions. It's the Chinese 1% that are...

Re: Treatment of Dharma books and materials while travelling

Good luck with your future endeavours, but I think you need to relax a bit, be more practical, and less superstitious. Dharma, above all, is about motivation. Anything motivated by the eight worldly concerns is not pure Dharma/virtue. Every action performed without the eight worldly concerns is pur...

Re: Treatment of Dharma books and materials while travelling

Tomorrow I'm leaving behind my life in New Zealand to start a new career in Korea. I'm wondering about travelling with Dharma materials (a mala) and books. I've heard that in Tibetan Buddhism, one should not take sacred objects into a bathroom. This thing about 'unclean areas' is one of the only th...

If you put this mantra from the Manjushri Root Tantra between the pages of your Dharma book, there will be no fault when the book is stepped over, etc.

Re: time traveling?

For my part I can say that my "feeling" is that they are genuine, I think you mean your "wish" is that these are genuine. From what I see here no evidence of any kind is advanced for this stuff. They are just shaggy dog stories, like those from folks whom claim near death experiences where they met...

Re: The Sacred Tattoos of Thailand

I think Esoteric Theravadan Buddhism is fascinating, so it cool seeing stuff like this and learning more about it. I also think the Reusi/Lersi role is really interesting as a tradition of yogis/ascetics. It seems to have some things in common with Ngakpas and other Vajrayana yogi traditions, altho...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

You can actually benefit a lot from asking questions about practice to your dharma friends. But this particular subject, the mind instructions in Dzogchen and Mahamudra, is not one of them in my experience. No one is patronizing you. /magnus Not me specifically, i'm not personally insulted or anyth...

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

It's a good answer, and this is my understanding as well. In many ways though, it seems that this means functionally "going backwards", we are back to the Two Accumulations approach, we are working with Karmic situation. Now wait for the ensuing poopstorm as I insult other practitioners by insinuat...

Re: my local Karma Kagyu center is closed cult?

So I was talking to other Tibetan Buddhists from another forum, and they said that it is normal for them to read books about Buddhism from various teachers and scholars. I was told that it is normal to even read books from different lineages and branches of Buddhism. However, lately I have noticed ...
