Re: Early Buddhism and Mahayana
Just curious, are there differing standards of what Buddhadharma is or just one standard? If just one standard in which tradition or texts can we find it? I think beginners would like to know so we could say something like, "That isn't Buddhism." In my opinion basic standards which would ...

. It's neglected, since a proper and thorough examination of the term dharmadhātu revealed that it occurs exactly 16 times in the Nirvana sūtra's Tibetan recension. There is no Sanskrit original, so you would have to consult the Chinese in order to cross check this. I listed the other mentions. My ...

Re: Who exactly is Acala/Fudo Myoo?
Fudo Myoo, aka Ayra Acalanatha, is a wisdom deity said to be an emanation of Vairocana Buddha. He is HUGE in Japan, particularly in Shingon, but also in Tendai, I am told. Here's the information on him from the Shingon Buddhist Institute: Fudo Myoo / Acala Vidyârâja http://www.shingon.org/deities/ju...

Re: Japan Earthquake and Tsunami
The tsunami and earthquake was a month ago, and today another 7.1 quake had this part of the country rattling. I've read but haven't confirmed that the meterological agency is concerned about the quakes sparking volcanic activity. Let's hope I don't die Pompeii-style. :? As I heard in one t...

I'm also planning on seeing HH the Dalai Lama in May at the University of Arkansas. Does anyone out there happen to know who is hosting this event? I would like to see if there are any volunteer opportunities with that group. Hi Terri, This is the first I have heard of the visit to Arkansas. Google...

I am saying that we do no have to restrict ourselves to the reductionist and exclusive approach to "truth" that dominated Tibet and the tibetans due to their former situation of being isolated from diversity. We are nowadays in a far better situation and should appreciate this and MAKE US...

Re: Japan Earthquake and Tsunami News
Quite true. Occasionally I am still appalled by the nonsense that passes as "news" these days, but then I am not naive about such things so perhaps I shouldn't be. A story on mass burials (cremations are now impossible due to the large numbers of dead) at the devastated town of Higashi-Mat...

Re: Japan Earthquake and Tsunami News
This is messed up. So okay, I know life goes on, and not everyone needs to share the same concerns worldwide, but as early as late last week -- with seven days of the event -- the massive tsunami story in Japan began slipping off the top of the headline news at Google (don't know about other places)...
