Re: Kagyu Samye Ling

Hi, Up until his passing in 2013, Akong Rinpoche, the co-founder of Samye Ling, gave empowerments several times a year, usually for the practises done regularly at Samye Ling; Namcho Amitabha and Sangye Menla, Konchok Chidu, Green Tara (Zabtik Drolma) and tge Chenrezig Terma of Thangtong Gyalpo...an...

Re: Tilopa and Matangi

From the book, Karmapa; The Black Hat Lama of Tibet; Tilopa travelled throughout India, meeting many fine teachers from whom he received initiations into many esoteric practices. Sometimes he pounded sesameseed (Skt: Til) to earn a living and it is said that his name derived from this. His main teach...

Re: Tilopa and Matangi

In the book, "Karmapa, the Black Hat Lama of Tibet" it lists Tilopa's human Gurus, Matangi among them I can't remember the details included, there ate lots of footnotes in that book, but it might be worth checking out. It's is quite a rare book and out of print, but for some reason my local Kagyu Sa...

Re: Leslie Hays says Akong R kidnapped and tortured SMR

In any case, we are seeing more and more people emboldened to come forward with unwelcome information despite the best efforts of many to silence them, so hopefully there will be greater opportunity for examination. Information suppression isn’t what it used to be, as we are seeing. The point is, t...

Re: Leslie Hays says Akong R kidnapped and tortured SMR

I honestly finda that hard to believe. This is bit too much. But still shows how f-ing messy the whole situation is. Kinda reminded me of a passage where Dianna says Akong R. bullied her and CTR when they still were in Samye-ling. But still really? This is a horrible mess. I knew Akong Rinpoche for...

Re: Is Monastic Ordination the Better Option for Single Dzogchen Practitioners?

It is interesting to know the monastic schedule for the practice. It seems there are no much differences on house-holders’ morning and evening schedule, except for the environment. According to some life-stories, mahasiddhas did not fit in monastic setting and that’s why they used to leave. Essenti...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

I'm not quite sure I've seen the very same practice, but when I was in Tashigar/Argentina last year on a retreat with Tsoknyi Rinpoche (organized by Dongyu Ling) they used an amended Konchog Chidu practice booklet, where the ChNN's Song of Vajra was included and sung as well (though in a slightly d...

Re: Dzogchen Community of Chogyal Namkhai Norbu

Interestingly I was talking to a student of Tsoknyi Rinpoche recently and learned that their group has a sadhana practice that not only includes Song of the Vajra (and the purification of the five elements), but uses the same melody. Tsoknyi Rinpoche presumably received it from ChNN though. Interes...

Re: Blessed Lama Tsongkhapa Day

Chögyal Namkhai Norbu gave a Tsongkhapa transmission in a Gelug monastery in Buryatia in the context of Dzogchen. If I remember correctly he received this in his Sakyapa college when he was younger. So, Tsongkhapa is respected and practiced even in Dzogchen? https://dharmawheel.net/viewtopi...

You need the transmission for it beforehand.

Also, there is a much better translation by Erik Pema Kunsang.

Re: Very sad news: Letter to Sogyal Rinpoche / Abuse allegations

Chime Rinpoche gave the Konchog Chidu Empowerment in May, I'm sure there have been others too, check the Marpa House Facebook page. I was there in April. The only initiation scheduled was a Vajrakilaya to be given by a Sakya Lama. I don't do FB otherwise I'd check as you said. He gave it at Khen Hu...

Re: Very sad news: Letter to Sogyal Rinpoche / Abuse allegations

I think he IS affirming, if not very explicitly, that the students did the right thing.. and in his own convoluted way (his style?) denouncing Sogyal. I don't think so. If an impure perception – such as criticism of one’s guru – is made deliberately and consciously, and if it then goes on to become...

Re: Guru Yoga thought experiment

I actually can't find the quote from DJKR, do you remember where it was? There is a great quote in 'Quintessential Dzogchen' by Adeu Rinpoche regarding the Sadhana. Well, maybe you're thinking of the following passage from this piece by my man: Now, unless your teacher specifically instructs otherw...

Re: Guru Yoga thought experiment

The Guru Sadhana (and it's commentary) I practice makes it clear the Guru is in his ordinary form. Also the oral instructions I have received on it confirm this, so there's no doubt it's how it's intended to be practiced. Obviously, there are other unique details to the practice which completes the...

Re: Guru Yoga thought experiment

I don't know about others but my gurus (not only ChNN, quite a few other Nyingma teachers too) never said to practise guru yoga on them in their ordinary selves. It's not common, but there are Guru Sadhanas where the Guru is visualised in their ordinary form. I practice one everyday. Khenpo Ngachun...

Re: Very sad news

I've been having a look at https://whatnow727.wordpress.com/ and just to lighten things up a bit I thought I would point out a nice story about Mingyur Rinpoche I read in a comment there: I had the good luck to be with him together for 12 days almost around the clock many years ago. That’s why I wa...

Re: Who can identify this figure?

It looks like it's supposed to be Guru Dewachenpo, who is quite common in Gaus like this...but this one has an earth touching mudra...which GDC usually doesn't.
