Re: Tibetan horoscope

Here http://www.men-tsee-khang-exports.org/products.php?cPath=23&rID=23 From the images here it looks like the detailed horoscopes are using the Vedic charts that show planetary influences and so on, so they are definitely doing the Kar-tsi. You can see above the birth year and elements as well...

Re: Tibetan horoscope

Hi, I am training as an astrologer with Jonang Khenpo Rigdzin Dorje, and can write a little bit about this. There are two families of Tibetan astrology, called kar-tsi and nak-tsi or jung-tsi. The former is based on the Kalachakra tantra and brings a lot of the associated Vedic astrological informat...

Re: Tibetan font/typing on Android - HOW? Qomolangma

Hi! It's not an easy process depending on your type of phone. Android natively is very bad at handling Tibetan fonts. Often, in order to install and use Tibetan fonts, you have to be using a rooted device. If you tell me exactly what kind of phone and what version of Android you're using, I may be a...

Re: Charges for puja

It is indeed a tricky situation. My center for example has a policy that nobody is turned away for lack of funds - however, we do have suggested donations for empowerments, and so on. The idea that something that is cheap is not valued isn't a Western idea, this idea dates to at least Gampopa. If yo...

Re: Ngakpa tradition & magic

I am blessed by the good fortune to have a close relationship with the Lama, I am recently the president of my small Dharma center and have the good fortune to be able to dedicate myself completely to serving this center and my Lama as his attendant / assistant / whatever. I have done my best to lea...

Re: Fivefold Mahamudra

There is a fairly recently published book by Lamchen Gyalpo Rinpoche that details the fivefold mahamudra's practice outside the context of strictly the pecha you're likely referring to. I'm not convenient to my home presently to refer to either. You should maybe check with your lama regarding whethe...

Re: Tibetan Calendar

That above one is very good.

Please be careful with the calendars on Google Play. At least one very nice calendar I have used on Android is also full of practice texts for a particular demon.

The one he just linked as well as the Drukpa one I linked before that are both fine, however.

Re: Empowerments

Empowerments are important in Vajrayana, in fact they are essentially the defining element of Vajrayana and tantra. However, to best answer your questions I think it's important to discuss a bit on what an empowerment is, and what they represent within tantra and Vajrayana. Essentially, an empowerme...

I see you're in the Virginia area. As you may or may not know, His Holiness the Gyalwang Drikungpa Chetsang Rinpoche will be giving teachings in Fairfax, starting I believe on April 30, and continuing through May 3rd. I believe on May 2nd, he will be bestowing the empowerment for the Great Drikung P...

Re: dalai lama refuse rebirth vs bodhisatva vow

"Dalai Lama" is not a name given to any emanation of Chenrezig, as there are other emanations of Chenrezig even alive today (His Holiness Chetsang Rinpoche, for example). A bodhisattva as advanced as Avalokitesvara can have hundreds of thousands of co-occurant emanations. The Dalai Lama is...

Re: Removing negative karma in Vajrayana

My understanding of purification practices and so on is that while it is impossible to remove the causes we have created in the past, it is possible to alter, purify, or cleanse the conditions under which they arise. Through various practices, mantra recitations, and so on, we cleanse and purify the...

For Android phone havers, the Drukpa lineage has just released their calendar as an app. It can read 15 days ahead for free, or indefinitely with a subscription.

Re: Is my attachment to iced cappuccinos dangerous?

On the other hand, in Shamatha to Mahamudra, it is specifically advised that strong Chinese tea is something to use to combat drowsiness that comes during meditation.

Skillful means, and all that.

Of course, if one is always drinking tea, it will be useless for this purpose. A middle way, perhaps?

Re: Hats,caps and crowns

Drukpas wear the Dakini cap, mostly red except His Holiness who wears a blue and red reversible one. I would be interested in more details about this hat if anyone has any, my own teacher told me it is just a hat worn because one Dakini told I think Tsangpa Gyare that he should wear it for good fort...

Re: Drukpa Lineage in the US

I've watched some YouTube videos of Holiness Drukpa in Mexico City on Yangtsi, it was the first videos of him speaking I'd seen. I really adore His Holiness the Gyalwang Drukpa, I hope to be able to participate in an Eco Pad Yatra sometime.
