Re: Sam Harris receives a (literal) pointing out instruction

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo - The Nature of Mind. Can't fault the video, it talks about awareness clearly.

Re: Sam Harris receives a (literal) pointing out instruction

Yes but you can say I am aware I'm walking and become the walk itself....nothing else but the totality of walking. Aware of whats
around but not labelling anything.

Re: Sam Harris receives a (literal) pointing out instruction

As I see it Sam Harris leans towards Dzogchen. The unadorned truth is awareness or just be...not this or that or any added adjunct.

Re: How to practice generosity in modern society

By all means give to buskers. I sometimes give to the homeless as well ....they have completely cut back on social housing, there's a fifteen year wait to get into a commission flat. As for well known charities I balk at giving to a CEO of a large charity ....who is usually sitting pretty on $200 to...

Re: Circumnambulating Boudhanath Stupa

Boudhanath Stupa dominates the area. Circumnambulating holy temples, mountains and other religious monasteries is very
common and acceptable, desirable in the east. The almost hypnotic walking around puts one in the mood for meditation
and the thoughts quieten down slowly but surely.

Re: "Deaths of despair"

How can we enjoy a 1st world lifestyle by buying rebadged 3rd world products at 1st world prices with 3rd world wages and work conditions? It has not only impacted our personal life (with chronic illnesses and depression) but also the environment by thoughtless dumping and digging of the earth often...

Re: "Deaths of despair"

Justsit may be right...all that hugging may bring about a feeling of acceptance. Queueing up is perhaps an odd way
to go about it. Shamans are also thought of as maternal, earthy, moist, life giving healers with that hands on approach.
You may very well feel loved in the hands of a shaman.

'Ego can turn yogi s like Ramana into its trap' Most people think Ramana was a jnani. Ramana says "to ask the mind to kill the mind is like making the thief the policeman. He will go with you and pretend to catch the thief, but nothing will be gained. So you you must turn inward and see where the mi...

Re: "Deaths of despair"

It appears we are in despair when people queue up for hours to be hugged by Amritananda. Apparently well educated white folk are there in droves. When asked about this huge number of people awaiting a hug she replied 'What does a mother do? She gives her children a hug, maternal values are decreasin...

"People with liberal arts educations are generally better equipped in life" well in my neck of the woods you may end up working as a barista. It doesn't help that both men and women are desperately competing for fewer full time jobs. The gender issue is totally overblown and high jacked by vested in...

Re: "Deaths of despair"

Interesting, a lot of people I know with university degrees are unemployed or under employed. The few I know who have full time jobs have no job security as they are all on contracts. Many jobs have been outsourced to India or the Philippines. It's hard to compete with these low wage countries. Of c...

Botswana also needs to be looked at. 'Survival International has given its “Racist of the Year” award for 2016 to President Ian Khama. President Khama allegedly said that Kalahari Bushmen live “lives of backwardness, a primitive life of deprivation and a primeval life of a bygone era” calling into q...

How to define liberation: "Not being bound, attracted or repulsed by any one particular 'realm' is called the dawning of the Svabhavikakaya in the mindstream. The Buddha encouraged those who were most sincere to leave the world and follow him in order to live the holy life, free from the duty and obligations of the householder life. Yet Ramana Maharshi usually discouraged his disciples from leaving the household life in pursuit of greater spiritual focus....

Dattatreya proclaims in his Avadhuta Gita: “The whole universe is shining as One, Without any split or break, or separate parts. The idea of 'Maya' is itself the great delusion; Duality and Non-duality are merely concepts of the mind.” Ramana Maharshi said "One consciousness, equally distributed eve...

Re: Transgender, Gender and Gay issues

'Right now gender is a fashionable idea pushed to absurd extremes' Yes that's the way I see it as well. Indeed
if a man came into a women's bathroom, most females would be loath to say anything as one has to be so
careful and political correctness reigns supreme.
