Re: Sam Harris receives a (literal) pointing out instruction

Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo - The Nature of Mind. Can't fault the video, it talks about awareness clearly.

Re: Sam Harris receives a (literal) pointing out instruction

Yes but you can say I am aware I'm walking and become the walk itself....nothing else but the totality of walking. Aware of whats
around but not labelling anything.

Re: Sam Harris receives a (literal) pointing out instruction

As I see it Sam Harris leans towards Dzogchen. The unadorned truth is awareness or just be...not this or that or any added adjunct.

Re: How to practice generosity in modern society

By all means give to buskers. I sometimes give to the homeless as well ....they have completely cut back on social housing, there's a fifteen year wait to get into a commission flat. As for well known charities I balk at giving to a CEO of a large charity ....who is usually sitting pretty on $200 to...

Re: Circumnambulating Boudhanath Stupa

Boudhanath Stupa dominates the area. Circumnambulating holy temples, mountains and other religious monasteries is very
common and acceptable, desirable in the east. The almost hypnotic walking around puts one in the mood for meditation
and the thoughts quieten down slowly but surely.

Re: Dzogchen/Mahamudra & Vichara......same or different?

'Ego can turn yogi s like Ramana into its trap' Most people think Ramana was a jnani. Ramana says "to ask the mind to kill the mind is like making the thief the policeman. He will go with you and pretend to catch the thief, but nothing will be gained. So you you must turn inward and see where t...

Re: Dzogchen/Mahamudra & Vichara......same or different?

How to define liberation: "Not being bound, attracted or repulsed by any one particular 'realm' is called the dawning of the Svabhavikakaya in the mindstream. When activities of body, speech and mind no longer entail karmic consequences, one is said to have attained Abhisambodhikaya (perfect ka...

Re: Dzogchen/Mahamudra & Vichara......same or different?

The Buddha encouraged those who were most sincere to leave the world and follow him in order to live the holy life, free from the duty and obligations of the householder life. Yet Ramana Maharshi usually discouraged his disciples from leaving the household life in pursuit of greater spiritual focus....

Re: Dzogchen/Mahamudra & Vichara......same or different?

Dattatreya proclaims in his Avadhuta Gita: “The whole universe is shining as One, Without any split or break, or separate parts. The idea of 'Maya' is itself the great delusion; Duality and Non-duality are merely concepts of the mind.” Ramana Maharshi said "One consciousness, equally distribute...

Re: Transgender, Gender and Gay issues

Rory you've tied yourself into pc knots. Instead of widening your outlook you have become narrow and judgemental. Their are many gender issues in this society...men can be violent and unpredictable but women can be outrageous bullies as well, especially in the workforce. The number of people employed...

Re: Transgender, Gender and Gay issues

'Right now gender is a fashionable idea pushed to absurd extremes' Yes that's the way I see it as well. Indeed
if a man came into a women's bathroom, most females would be loath to say anything as one has to be so
careful and political correctness reigns supreme.

Re: Transgender, Gender and Gay issues

Hijras have a recorded history in the Indian subcontinent from antiquity onwards as suggested by the Kama Sutra period. They are a fairly common sight in India. Their history features a number of well-known roles part gender, part spiritual and very much in survival mode. They sing at weddings and b...

Re: The attainment of the Arhats

The different capacities of an Arhat is just mere intellectual play. To discuss awakening in this light is best not
to be rigid or exclusive. How can one discuss at length the indescribable?

Jiddu Krishnamurti

“Once I asked Krishnamurti, ‘Why did you select this particular piece of land for the Foundation?’ back came his reply, ‘Because, this is the land that the Buddha’s feet first touched when he arrived in Kashi by boat, after his Enlightenment at Bodh Gaya!’ He did not stop there. He held me by my han...
