Re: Upasika Blavatsky

Don't forget Roerich who gave us the translation of the Blue Annals that every Buddhist scholar of the past 40 years has a dog-eared copy of sitting on their book shelves. He was a product of Theosophy that also brought us the whole "Jesus lived in India" thing. He also fancied himself the King of S...

Re: Autonomous "kriyas" recognized in Tibetan Buddhism

I totally agree that Buddhism and Hinduism are not one and the same (at least not from the Buddhist POV), but I know a Tibetan Buddhist Lama who has what you are calling kriyas and what others might call Shaktipat. When doing Phowa transmission with H.E. Ayang Rinpoche, I've seen a number of Buddhi...

Do you mean this person https://www.tbrc.org/#!rid=P2JM496 There's not a lot of info, but he seems a bit early for somebody who passed away in 2011.

Re: Dharmakaya aspect?

There's no such thing as "Dhyani" Buddhas. That term was coined by an Englishman that was stationed in Nepal in the 1800's. It simply refers to the representatives of the five buddha families.

Re: Connection of Guru Rinpoche and Marpa the Translator

No snga 'gyur rnying ma was already in use by that time. Zurchen Shakya Jungne, who was ten years older than Marpa, coined the term bka' ma to differentiate their early translation tradition from those following the new gter ma traditions, thereby dividing the Nyingma into two camps.

Re: question on distingushing mind from it's nature

In terms of the discussion of 'self-liberated' this is a translation of rang grol and the grol in this case is an intransitive verb. In other words it does not have an object that is liberated or liberates from. This is an important point. It does NOT mean liberated by itself it means that it is inh...

The spelling is wrong. it should be dad pa'i gdung dbyangs. The full title is mkha' 'gro'i rgyal mo ye shes mtsho rgyal la gsol 'debs dad pa'i gdung dbyangs. Not sure what you would like to know other than what you've already mentioned that it's a prayer to Yeshe Tsogyal composed by Mipham.

Re: Dudjom Tröma Nagmo ngondro

I think a little more clarification is needed here. Sorry if I repeat some of what Adamantine said. What lingugpa is referring to as the "Short Throma ngondro" and Adam is referring to as "lujin ngondro", is really just the opening and closing verses used in the four feasts. However, the opening ver...

Yes. One needs at least the lung. Originally, Thigle Gyachen had no empowerment, but one was composed for it by Khyentse Wangpo. Thanks, Malcolm. So if Tigle Gyachen originally had no empowerment, does that mean they originally relied on the rigpai tsal wang in Yeshe Lama for the empowerment? Khyen...

Re: What's going on in this video?

It's a little confusing but the Tibetan basically describes what you see in the video, with the suggestion that it is due to the power of blessings entering into people their bodies shake and quiver and act like wild dogs and so on. The comments are often quite incredulous, with many claiming this i...

Re: Guru Rinpoche´s leaving of Tibet

Well, the king is Trisong Deutsen and he, and the ministers, are afraid of GR because of his magical powers and they know they can't control him. The mention of Dunhuang was because it dates part of the story, as the caves were sealed sometime around the 11th century. That means some version of this...
